IGCA Rescue - Arizona Available Rescues

We do maintain a waiting list for high demand IGs, such as young females. This page is updated regularly, but not all dogs in rescue are shown as many are placed as soon as they arrive if there is a waiting list.

Please consider adopting a senior or a special needs IG. They have so much love to give.

**Nationwide, all dogs in the IGCA Rescue Program aged 9 years and older have their adoption fees reduced to $125 for the month of July. If you’ve considered giving one of these precious seniors a home, now is a wonderful time to act!**

Zeta is a 3 year old black and white male who entered the rescue program April 1st, 2008.  Zeta showed signs of neglect and was apparently kept as an outdoor dog and was used for breeding.  Zeta is VERY PLAYFUL [especially in the evenings] and likes to entertain himself tossing around plush toys and running around the house on carpeted areas if he can’t get the other dogs in the house interested in playtime.  Zeta loves the company of other dogs and would enjoy a forever home with at least one other playful dog.  Zeta is VERY timid with people and he will only approach people he knows occasionally.  Because of his very high level of timidity and the risk of his safety if he should accidently get out of the house, homes with children will not be considered.  Zeta walks well on a leash and is happy to go for walks.  Zeta needs a home to give him plenty of socialization and gentle, patient attention.  Without actively working to engage Zeta, he will live happily in your home but he may not interact much with you.  Zeta does well with his house training if he is confined to a small part of the house with a dog door or crated but he needs supervision and a schedule when he has access to the rest of the house or he still has accidents.

Zeta has been neutered, had a dental, is up to date on his shots, and is ready for his new home.  After filling out an application, please contact Amy at igrescue@cox.net to find out how to submit your application locally if you are interested in this special boy.

**Nationwide, all dogs in the IGCA Rescue Program aged 9 years and older have their adoption fees reduced to $125 for the month of July. Mo qualifies for this reduced fee!!**

Mo is an adorable 9 year old red and white neutered male who was brought in to rescue July 11th.  Mo was brought in to rescue when his owner felt her lifestyle was incompatible with Mo’s needs.  Mo is a VERY friendly and outgoing boy who meets new people with a smile, happy eyes and a wiggling hind end!  Mo will definitely keep your hand busy petting him and he loves to go for car rides, short walks and to snuggle up in bed with you!  Mo also gets along very well with other dogs.  Mo is likely deaf but you may not realize it right away because he follows people and other dogs around in the house and watches what’s going on closely so he can be included and not miss out on dinner or attention time!

Mo is Special Needs. Recent lab work shows that Mo likely has Cushing’s disease.  Although Cushing’s disease cannot be cured, it is not an automatic death sentence and it is usually not a difficult disease for an owner to manage.  Some dogs can live with this disease with an excellent quality of life for years.  Like many diseases, there are several treatment options for Cushing’s.  Some are very expensive.  Others are not.  Mo is not looking for someone to spend money they cannot afford on his medical care.  Mo is looking for a forever home that will show him he is loved and appreciated each day in spite of his disease.  Mo’s immediate needs are simple:  proper diet, moderate exercise, and ready access to a proper potty area.

Mo is approx 16” at the shoulder and weighs 25lbs.  He is extremely overweight.  This is partly due to Cushing’s and partly due to simple over-feeding.  We suspect Mo will lose some weight [and feel better] on a high quality diet with appropriate daily servings though he will not likely achieve a normal weight or appearance without successful Cushing’s treatment.  Mo enjoys short walks and the regular exercise will help him lose weight.  However, Cushing’s dogs generally cannot tolerate heavy exercise so care should be taken that he doesn’t over do it.   Mo drinks a lot of water because of Cushing’s and as a result, he has to potty more often than other dogs.  Because of this, Mo either needs a home with dog door where he can let himself out, a home where someone is WILLING and ABLE to let him out frequently [including NIGHT time], or a home that can give Mo an appropriate indoor potty solution and train him to use it [pee pads].  Mo IS HOUSE TRAINED and has not had many accidents in foster care even though he does not have a dog door there because he will wake you up to ask to go out to potty.

Mo was not treated for this condition prior to coming in to rescue and he is not in pain or discomfort from Cushing’s at this time.  We have started Mo on medicine [Ketaconazole] to see if he will respond to it to reduce his symptoms [frequency of urination, weight, etc.].  It is possible this medicine might not work for Mo. This medicine costs approximately $30 per month.   IF Mo responds to this medicine, we are hoping to find a home for him that can afford to continue the prescription.

There are many terrific websites that offer information about Canine Cushing’s including this one http://www.kateconnick.com/library/cushingsdisease.html .  There is also a Canine Cushing’s Yahoo Group for support.

Mo is up to date on his shots and he’s recently had his teeth cleaned and they are in very good shape!  Look past the Special Needs and take another look Mo’s picture…..  Wouldn’t you like to share your life with this happy boy?  To become Mo’s forever home, please fill out an application by following the links on our main page and write to Amy at igrescue@cox.net to find out where to mail your application locally to expedite it.

Fresca is a 6 year old blue fawn and white female who was brought in to the rescue program April 18 when her owners found that they would have to be traveling more often for work and would be unable to care for her.

Fresca is VERY friendly and loves to be petted and cuddled with.  Fresca gets along with cats, dogs, kids, men, women, everybody!  She always wants to be with her human and will follow you around from room to room to be near you.  Fresca is used to sleeping in bed with her human at night. Though Fresca is not a barker, she can be a little ‘whiney’ if she can’t be near her people.   Fresca will do best in a home that has plenty of time and attention to give her.   Fresca knows basic commands and walks well on a leash.  Fresca also does well on car rides but she does not like to be crated.  Fresca is approximately 14” at the shoulder and is overweight at 15 lbs.   Fresca’s new home will need to help her continue to slim down.

Fresca will soon have a much needed dental and be brought up to date on her shots and she will be ready for her new home.  If you are interested in Fresca, please follow the link on our main page to fill out an application then contact Amy at igrescue@cox.net to find out how to submit it locally.

Cookie is a handsome 2 year old red fawn and white male who was brought into the rescue program on March 27th with his sire Benny and his sister Cherry when their owner needed to rehome them due to the challenges of home foreclosure and moving.

Cookie was an outdoor dog and is learning to to be an indoor family member.  Cookie enjoys being petted and cuddling but he can be VERY difficult to ‘catch’.  Cookie is learning to let people approach him and pick him up but his new home will likely need to work with him for weeks or months to help him improve. Cookie will need a home that is patient and willing to handle him slowly and gently.  Cookie will do best in a home with adults only.  Loud noises and quick movements cause Cookie to bolt and he is slowly becoming used to the normal sounds and movements in the house and bolting less often.  Cookie is learning to walk on a leash but still finds ‘the big world’ a scary.  Cookie loves to sleep in bed under the covers with his human and this is a very strong bonding tool that will help Cookie trust you.  Cookie gets along with other dogs and he LOVES to run around the back yard to entertain himself if he can’t get another dog to chase him.  Cookie is learning not to be ‘barky’ but he does bark outside when he hears noises over the fence.  Cookie uses a dog door but will need to be watched in the house to prevent accidents until he realizes that outside is the only acceptable place to potty.

Cookie has been nuetered, had his molars cleaned, has been brought up to date on his shots and is ready for his new home.  If you are interested in Cookie, please follow the link on our main page to fill out an application and email Amy at igrescue@cox.net to find out how to sumbit it locally.

Jade is a 2.5 year old fawn and white female [born 10/30/2006] who entered the rescue program with two other IGs [her brother Gizmo and housemate Star] on June 7th after her family moved and had difficulty getting their larger pack [9 dogs] acclimated to the new house and routine.

Jade is TINY.  She is approx 12 inches at the shoulder and weighs only 6.5 lbs!  Jade will do fine in a home with children who are mindful, gentle, and understand that she is not toy and could be easily hurt if played with or around too roughly.  Jade gets along well with dogs of all sizes but larger dogs must be gentle and have a proven history of safe behavior around very small animals.  Jade is crate trained but she does not have experience walking on a leash.   Jade is very shy at first but warms up to her people within a few days.  She does best with slow movements and soft gentle words as she gets to know you.  Once Jade trusts you, she loves to be held and cuddled with.  Jade will waive at you from a distance with her paw if she wants attention but is nervous about approaching you!  Jade is good in her potty habits having access to a dog door.  Her previous owner said she prefers a potty pad to going outside so a home without a dog door may want to consider using them for her.  Jade’s canine teeth are misaligned and good oral hygiene will be vital to ensure this little girl gets to keep her teeth.

Jade has just had her dental, been spayed, and given her vaccinations.  She will be ready for her new home in a few weeks.  If you are interested in Jade, please follow the links on our main page to fill out an application and contact Amy at igrescue@cox.net to learn how to submit your application locally to expedite it.

IGCA RESCUE IS ALL VOLUNTEER.  DUE TO THE HIGH VOLUME OF DOGS IN OUR PROGRAM, YOUR PATIENCE IS APPRECIATED.  THE APPLICATION PROCESS CAN TAKE A COUPLE OF WEEKS.  IF YOU DO NOT HEAR FROM US WITHIN A FEW DAYS OF SUMITTING YOUR APPLICATION, WE WELCOME YOU TO FOLLOW UP TO BE SURE YOU HAVEN’T BEEN MISTAKENLY OVERLOOKED!

Star is a 4 year old blue and white female [born 05/19/05] who entered the rescue program with two other IGs [Gizmo and Jade] on June 7th after her family moved and had difficulty getting their larger pack [9 dogs] acclimated to the new house and routine.

Star loves to be with her special person and has mild separation anxiety when she can’t be in the same room as her person.  Star will settle down in a crate but she will sometimes complain about being crated, especially if she is alone.  Though Star is used to sleeping in a crate with other IGs,  she would love to have a home where she could curl up in bed with her owner.  Star is very shy at first but warms up to her people quickly.  She does best with slow movements and soft gentle words as she gets to know you.  Once Star trusts you, she is a little velcro hound and will follow you everywhere.  She is not shy about trying to get the lion’s share of petting time if there are other dogs in the house by ‘wiggling’ in front of the others with eyes that say, “me first! More for me!” and is learning to wait for her turn. Star does not have experience walking on a leash but she loves her ‘person’ so much she will likely be a quick learner.   Star has been good in her potty habits having access to a dog door.

Star has just had her dental, been spayed, and been given her vaccinations.  She will be ready for her new home in a few weeks.  If you are interested in her, please follow the links on our main page to fill out an application and contact Amy at igrescue@cox.net to learn how to submit your application locally to expedite it.

Gizmo is a 2.5 year old red/fawn and white male [born 10/30/2006] who entered the rescue program with two other IGs [Star and his sister Jade] on June 7th after his family moved and had difficulty getting their larger pack [9 dogs] acclimated to the new house and routine.

Gizmo loves people but he is shy with them at first.  Gizmo warms up to people quickly [within a day or two] and then he loves to sit on your lap and cuddle with you.  Slower movements and a soft voice will help him get used to you.  Gizmo will cower if you approach him too quickly even after he knows you.  Gizmo is a very curious fellow and his previous owners recommend his new home “puppy proof” it to make sure items that will get Gizmo into trouble are safely out of reach. Gizmo has not shown us this mischevious behavior in foster care yet!  Gizmo is used to being crated with another IG but he will sometimes have an accident if left crated for longer periods.  He knows how to use a dog door.  We’ll post an update when we know more about his potty habits. Gizmo had a broken leg as a puppy and though it healed without incident and is now healthy, Gizmo does not like to jump.  If you bring Gizmo on the couch or bed with you to cuddle, you will want to put him back on the floor when cuddle time is over.   Gizmo does not have experience walking on a leash but his curious nature and desire for attention will likely make him a quick learner. Gizmo is good with other dogs and is used to an indoor cat.

Gizmo is neutered and he will soon have a dental and shots and be ready for his new home.  If you are interested in Gizmo, please follow the links on our main page to fill out an application and contact Amy at igrescue@cox.net to learn how to submit your application locally to expedite it.

**Nationwide, all dogs in the IGCA Rescue Program aged 9 years and older have their adoption fees reduced to $125 for the month of July. Isabelle qualifies for this reduced fee!!**

Isabelle is a beautiful 8.5 year old fawn and white female.  Isabelle first came into rescue with her littermate Paolo in Oct 2008 after they were turned in together to a shelter.  Isabelle and Paolo were adopted together in Jan 2009 but were returned to the rescue program on June 9th, 2009 when a younger Whippet in their new home bit Isabelle.  [In this picture of Isabelle, you can see the bite wound on her side that is healing after being sutured.]  Isabelle and Paolo are now being fostered in separate homes and are doing fine without each other.  They can be adopted together or separately.

Isabelle is a gentle and sweet mannered IG who enjoys  attention and to cuddle under the blankets with people or with other dogs but she is not demanding about it like Paolo.  Isabelle is a little nervous about people approaching her too quickly and bows or crouches when people do this but she readily comes to her name is friendly with men and women.  She would likely do fine in a home with children who are old enough to understand to not run toward her.  She walks well on a leash and knows how to use a dog door.  She has not had a  potty accident in her foster home.

Isabelle is spayed and had a dental in May.  Isabelle is up to date on her Rabies vaccination and ready for her new home. If you are interested in Isabelle, please follow the links on our main page to fill out an application and contact Amy at igrescue@cox.net to learn how to submit your application locally to expedite it.

Paolo is a mega velcro dog and would love to be petted 24/7.  If you enjoy a dog under your hand every time you sit down, Paolo might be the guy for you!  Paolo is not shy about sliding up and under other dogs getting attention so he can get a second helping.  Paolo is friendly with everyone and he he would likely do ok in a home with children. Paulo walks well on a leash and knows how to use a dog door.  His previous home reported that he had occasional potty accidents but he has done well in his foster home having a dog door and a restricted area of the house.

Paolo is nuetered and had a dental in May.  He is up to date on her Rabies vaccination and ready for his new home. **Nationwide, all dogs in the IGCA Rescue Program aged 9 years and older have their adoption fees reduced to $125 for the month of July. Darla qualifies for this reduced fee!!**

Darla is a 9 year old white and blue pied female who was brought into the rescue program on May 27th, 2009 when her owner had to move out of state for work and thought Darla would be happier staying in Arizona.

Darla is a very friendly and social IG who loves attention.  Darla’s owner said that she loves kids and has been around children of all ages.  Darla has lived with a Black Lab and she enjoys the company of other dogs but she would do ok as an only dog if her person gave her plenty of love and attention.  Darla learns a new housetraining routine in a few days and is reliable in her potty training once she knows where to go and has a stable routine.  Darla has experience using a dog door and on going for walks to potty on a leash.  Darla can be a little shy walking on a leash but she is getting much better at it.  Her owner reported that she was crate trained but Darla has not been crated much in recent years since her potty habits have been so good.  Darla is well mannered and easy to train if there are places in the home you prefer she not visit.  Darla loves to sleep cuddled up to her human but she is fine sleeping on a dog bed on the floor in the bedroom if you prefer.   Darla has two special stuff toys she likes to carry around that she has had for years because she is careful with them!  Darla likes to be where her humans are at all times. When stressed, Darla can be a little clingy. A gentle transition to a new home will have her on track in a few days.  Darla is a little overweight and would like a home to help her with her diet so she can shed a few pounds.

If you are interested in Darla, please follow the links on our main page to fill out an application and contact Amy at igrescue@cox.net to learn how to submit your application locally to expedite it.

**Nationwide, all dogs in the IGCA Rescue Program aged 9 years and older have their adoption fees reduced to $125 for the month of July. Petey qualifies for this reduced fee!!**

Petey is a 10 year old blue and white nuetered male who came in to the rescue program on June 19, 2009 because he was marking in the house. As we get to know him better, we will update his bio for more information on his potty habits and progress.

Petey is VERY going.  He loves human attention and he LOVES to play with other dogs.  Petey is used to being around children and playing games with them like fetch and chase.  Petey is crate trained and walks well on a leash.  His previous owners said that he gets alongs with cats but he will try to engage them in play.  As is not uncommon with IGs, Petey has seizures a couple of times a year.  Because they are not severe or frequent, Petey does not need medicine for this.

Petey will soon have a dental and be brought up to date on his shots.   If you are interested in Petey, please follow the links to the main page and fill out an application.  You can then contact Amy at igrescue@cox.net for instructions on how to submit the application locally.
