Who Killed Cicero?

Missions abroad

Consulates of stench;
their master's voice;
defenders of hell;
cymbals of ignominy;
agents of Nero;
eggregious maggots of state;
eclipse of African genius;
incubus at large;
sons and daughters of January;
farmers of crops of deceit;
engineers of misinformation;
architects of retrogression;
doctors of lunacy;
professors of vacancy;
editors of misology;
christians without Christ;
muslims without Mohammed;
ambassadors of bashing;
Soyinka, their dog;
lawyers of liars;
flocks without shepherd;
nation without Mandela.

How do we carve a new nation?
Poetry must whittle new alternatives--
just a simple cathedral or mosque
of honesty, fairness and justice.
Not the magisterial grandeur of emptiness
nor the anthills of moral invalids.
This is the meaning--
honesty, decency, conscience, honor--
our government of world acclaim.

Then will come the peace
and respect.
