I was a subscriber to your newspaper for almost 19 years but I let my subscription lapse because of my disagreement with several of your editorial stands, especially illegal immigration. Illegal immigration and insecure borders is just not an economic threat but one of national security, they are criminals and suck our treasury dry through various entitlement programs. They need to be arrested and deported whenever they are found; I however do not advocate a house-to-house search. Just use the laws to make them self-immigrate elsewhere. As for anchor children I would give the parents a choice, they can either bring their children back with them with reentry for the children only when they become adults (and file petitions for their relatives) or give up the children for adoption or placement with legal relatives. Harsh? Yes. But it must be done to prevent this country from turning into Mexico or worst by legal loopholes. The Mexican people must take back their country from the corrupt politicians and the criminals who run it. Only then will the Mexican nation become a part of the first world with prosperity for all of them. Open borders allows Mexico to export their problems to the United States and keep business as usual.
I also do not agree with "reasonable" gun control laws. My feeling that is the birthright of every citizen and legal resident aliens (except for criminals, the insane, and illegal aliens) to keep and bear ANY firearm of their choice with no restrictions including the right to keep firearms locked up in vehicles while at work. Incidentally bazookas are NOT firearms as you have implied in past editorials. It is a crew-served weapon and those weapons is can be regulated since is not a firearm and very destructive. But if a owner uses and stores such weapons in a safe and secure manner why not be allowed to keep it? The purpose of gun control is NOT to reduce crime, improve public safety, or "for the children" but to prevent the people from overthrowing an oppressive government which I fear may have to become a reality in the near future as long as the government grows bigger and more oppressive and the politicians continue to ignore the will of the people.
My final point is that politicians should not have to leave their beliefs at the Statehouse door, I want politicians who are moral and will not hesitate to point out the failing of a Godless society such as so-called homosexual rights. If the homosexuals and their fellow travelers are offended then they are welcome to move elsewhere. I see no chains on their feet keeping them here.
The bottom line is that I am losing my freedoms, my wealth, and my property rights more and more each day, especially from gutless politicians who will not stop the ethanol payments which is causing local and world-wide food shortages and not adding anything to energy, refuse to develop our own oil, coal, and nuclear energy independence, or the global change myth; which is just the latest attempt by the Marxists to control the means of production and turn us all into their serfs.
I have had enough from the lack of political leadership about these issues; I do not want to see it in the editorial pages and biased reporting my local newspaper.
The Democrats are all bantering about universal health care. If they get control be ready for fat taxes, mandatory smoking cession classes, forced diets and exercise on overweight persons, and other health-Nazi mandates on how we can run our own lives. I also see this as a back-door attempt to gut the Second Amendment because many anti-freedom liberals claim that firearms are a public health issue. Therefore what would keep the government from withholding health care from any home that has guns in it or hold the owners of a discharged firearm completely liable for injuries? It would not make any difference if a firearm was accidently fired, or used in self defense, or even if stolen and used in a later crime. The liability would still be there and gun owner could lose everything they own in criminal and civil lawsuits to recover health costs of behalf of the victims. The Second Amendment is still there but nobody will be able to exercise it. We already know the reason why the liberals want to band private firearms; it is not for safety of children or health issues. It is to disarm us so we are at the mercy of the government with no way to fight back. Just like all oppressive governments have done through out history.
It is ironic that Algore compares those of us who deny man-made global warming are the same as those who appeased the NAZIs and deny that the Holocaust occurred because, he says, there is a scientific consensus that states that global warming IS being caused by human activity, period. End of debate. No discussion. No questions. No resistance.
Once before there was a scientific consensus in the late 19th and early 20th century about eugenics. Eugenics was a social/scientific movement that advocated that in order to create a safe, healthy, and intelligent society, and to lessen human suffering was to segregate and control mentally or genetically inferior persons and races to prevent them from polluting society. One major eugenics advocate in the United States was Margaret Sanger who founded the American Birth Control League (today it is known as Planned Parenthood). One of the goals of that early organization was "to correlate the findings of scientists, statisticians, investigators, and social agencies in all fields" (scientific consensus?).
Margaret Sanger listed the following aims of her organization in the appendix of her book "The Pivot of Civilization" (copied from Wikipedia): "RESEARCH: To collect the findings of scientists, concerning the relation of reckless breeding to the evils of delinquency, defect and dependence; INVESTIGATION: To derive from these scientifically ascertained facts and figures, conclusions which may aid all public health and social agencies in the study of problems of maternal and infant mortality, child-labor, mental and physical defects and delinquencies in relation to the practice of reckless parentage. HYGIENIC AND PHYSIOLOGICAL INSTRUCTION by the Medical profession to mothers and potential mothers in harmless and reliable methods of Birth Control in answer to their requests for such knowledge. STERILIZATION of the insane and feebleminded and the encouragement of this operation upon those afflicted with inherited or transmissible diseases, with the understanding that sterilization does not deprive the individual of his or her sex expression, but merely renders him incapable of producing children. EDUCATION: The program of education includes: The enlightenment of the public at large, mainly through the education of leaders of thought and opinion -- teachers, ministers, editors and writers to the moral and scientific soundness of the principles of Birth Control and the imperative necessity of its adoption as the basis of national and racial progress. POLITICAL AND LEGISLATIVE: To enlist the support and cooperation of legal advisers, statesmen and legislators in effecting the removal of state and federal statutes which encourage dysgenic breeding, increase the sum total of disease, misery and poverty and prevent the establishment of a policy of national health and strength. ORGANIZATION: To send into the various States of the Union field workers to enlist the support and arouse the interest of the masses, to the importance of Birth Control so that laws may be changed and the establishment of clinics made possible in every State. INTERNATIONAL: This department aims to cooperate with similar organizations in other countries (NAZI Germany?) to study Birth Control in its relations to the world population problem, food supplies, national and racial conflicts, and to urge upon all international bodies organized to promote world peace, the consideration of these aspects of international amity."
This movement in the United States lead to the creation of Departments of Eugenics in many major universities and was supported by organizations such as the Rockefeller Foundations though it's Bureau of Social Hygiene. The ideas of the American Birth Control League/Planned Parenthood led to forced sterilization of mentally ill citizens and restrictions on immigration from the "inferior" regions of the world such as the Far East and Southern Europe. The movement spread worldwide and the German NAZIs embraced it and extended to it logical and final scientific consensus which became euthanasia of mentally distributed and deformed persons (as the NAZIs defined and expanded the term) and the attempt to exterminate entire races of human beings seen as inferior to the master German Aryan race.
Hence, government back scientific consensus lead to eugenics and eugenics, while not directly responsible for the Holocaust, did give Hitler and his henchmen justification for the murder of millions and a war that wiped out millions more. They started small, first sterilization of the feebleminded with the approval and admiration of the rest of the world. Then euthanasia with the family being told that the person died of natural causes or during medical treatment. Then came the cattle cars and the one-way ticket to the death camps.
So when anyone claims "scientific consensus" on any subject and then try to use the power of government to impose it, by law and maybe later by force, on the unwilling masses I question what is the real reasons behind such high and mighty rhetoric, especially something as laughable as so-called man-made global warming; as if we, mere insects crawling on this face of this planet, can challenge the forces of nature and the laws of the universe. In the case of Algore and his fellow travelers and useful idiots it is easy to see that the goal is world wide socialism/communism to take away all of our God-given rights and freedoms, control the entire world's wealth, and the ways and means of production.
The German people saw their friends and neighbors disappearing in the night but did not question what happened to them. It was pathetic that after the war that no ordinary German claimed that he was a member of the NAZI party or knew of the death camps. Let hope that the American people do not repeat history and resist the evil conspiracy behind the global warming hoax.
This is my solution to the illegal immigration problem with I think would be fair for everyone involved and not that difficult to implement:
1. Secure the borders, this one thing should override all other federal, State, local, and environmental laws. I am not really concerned about the 99% of the illegals that sneak across the border from a national security viewpoint; they just want to create a better life for them and their families. It is the one-percent of the criminals, drug runners, and possible terrorists that cross the borders with them that worries me.
2. Modify the first sentence of the first section of the 14th Amendment that now reads as follows:
"Section 1. All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. …"
I would change it to read like this:
"Section 1. After ratification of this Article of Amendment all persons born or naturalized in the United States (provided that at least one parent is a Citizen of the United States or a resident alien), and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are Citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. The rights enumerated by this Constitution shall apply only to United States Citizens, resident aliens, or other persons residing in the United States legally. …"
3. Enforce existing laws or make new laws stating that it shall be a crime for any public or private entity to knowingly shelter, employ, transport, or hide illegal aliens; no State, political subdivision, or private organization shall provide any type of private, governmental, or educational benefits to illegal aliens (except for emergency or life-threatening medical treatment); the United States or any State or political subdivision shall not issue any type of permit or license with an expiration date greater than the expiration date on a foreign visitor's visa; and the legal status of every person arrested or detained shall be checked and if the accused is not a Citizen he shall be turned over to immigration authorities for detainment till he is deported. All police agencies would have the power to apprehend and detain illegal aliens and any so-called "sanctuary city" and the State they are in will have all federal money withheld and the United States will bear all costs relating to the arrest, housing, feeding, and medical treatment if illegal aliens.
4. Issue worker visas to non-citizens and make employers liable by posting a bond which will be forfeited if the worker does not depart the country or get legally hired elsewhere when his employment is ended. The persons issued worker visas will be liable for all processing expenses by paying a fee and if the worker is processed in the United States country the fees and bonds will be doubled. (To discourage in-country applications an employer will receive back half of the bond when employment is terminated). Foreigners under worker visas shall be liable for all taxes just like any other Citizen and worker visas will not be part of the citizenship process: applying for citizenship will be a separate process.
5. Illegal aliens who have children that are considered by law to be United States citizens will have a choice: they can take their minor children back with them to their home country, give up their children to legal relatives already in the United States, or place them with foster parents. When the children turn eighteen they can return to the United States (if not already living here) and petition for their parents and other relatives to live in the United States in accordance with the laws.
