SENIOR HIGH BIBLE STUDY

All Mondays, 7-8:30 pm

While our Bible study continues to meet on Mondays from 7-8:30 pm, our location has changed. We have moved our study to Megan Wenger's home. She lives at 6901 Rolling Rd, just a couple minutes from church. This allows us to gather in a more comfortable and inviting environment- and we're also getting yummy snacks! So come and get your souls and your tummies fed! (Directions to Megan's from church: Left on Rolling Rd./ Make a U-turn at Springfield Village Dr./ #6901 Rolling Rd.)

The excitement is brewing! The response is already great to our Sundays of Service that kicks off this Sunday! In case you haven't heard, we will be doing a different service project every Sunday during the Sunday School hour (9:45-10:45 am) to serve our congregation and community.

Join us this Sunday as we collect school supplies for ECHO. We'll be handing our shopping lists to the shoppers at Giant and the Dollar Store, so that they can buy the needed items during their own shopping trip.

You can help in other ways as well! Do you have new school supplies that you never got around to using this year? Bring those items in to add to our collection on Sunday! We'll also give you some time to buy items at the dollar store if you'd like.

Rising 7th and 8th graders meet with Jessica Wenger in Room 9. Rising 8th through graduated 12th graders will meet with Erika in the Youth Room.

Blessings!

Erika

FYI- here's our shopping list for Sunday:

-notebooks

-backpacks

-dictionaries

-pens

-markers

-pencils

-lined paper

We have just gotten an awesome opportunity for a Monday night service project, July 11!

A few weeks ago many of you heard Vicky Neeley speak about NOVACO and the services they provide for women and their children, who have often escaped from situations of domestic abuse. Well, others from POP are going to be serving dinner to the group on Monday and our youth group has been invited to come and do a project with the children. The children will be decorating t-shirts to express who they are and who they want to be. Then they will be decorating wooden airplanes with markers and going outside to fly them, demonstrating their freedom to choose who the want to be. These projects are always extra fun when there are some cool teenagers to share the experience with- and that's why we need you!

Meet Jessica at church at 5:30 pm on Monday, July 11. You will travel to King of Kings Lutheran Church (by Fair Oaks Mall). We'll spend an hour with the kids before returning to POP at 8:45 pm.

There will be no Bible Study that night.

Saturday, July 16th

The Sr. High will be heading over to George Mason University to see the movie Aviator. GMU sponsors a FREE summer program called Movies Under the Moon which shows movies on the big screen outside during the evenings.

This should be a great time to sit back and relax while enjoying dinner and the movie, Aviator!!!

When? Plan on meeting at the church (Saturday, July 16th) at 6:45pm. We will drive over to GMU, have dinner (Popeyes’ chicken), and then lay back and watch the movie which starts at 8pm. We are hoping to be back at church no later than 11:30pm.

What do you need to do ahead of time? We are asking you to please sign up in advance so we know how many kids to plan on feeding. Also, we will need a parent to help out with the driving, so please let us know if you would be able to help.

What to bring: The church will be providing the main meal (chicken from Popeyes) and drinks. It would be great if you could bring your favorite snack food or dessert to share with the group. (Remember, this is a picnic type dinner, so try and keep it mess-free!)

Email or call me to let me know if you can come! THANKS!

Blessings,
Jessica

30 hour Famine: July 22-23, 2005

By the end of the day a total of 29,000 children will have died from hunger and extreme poverty. When will it be our time to ACT FAST?

Visit the orange tables in the Narthex after the service (July 9th and 10th) to learn how your donations will give the chance of life to a child. For every dollar your family donates you'll help us build our path to hope by feeding a child for a day.

What is the 30 Hour Famine?

The 30 Hour Famine is a World Vision program that allows young people to make a significant impact on the problem of world hunger. By pledging to go without food for 30 hours, participants not only raise money to help alleviate this type of suffering, but also gain an understanding of how it feels to experience hunger. It is our hope that this experience, combined with a greater awareness of the suffering taking place in many parts of the world, will inspire young people to compassion and great desire to make a difference in the lives of others.

How long will this Lock-In last?

The fast for the 30 Hour Famine will begin at 12 PM on Friday, July 22nd.
Youth will be on a honor system agreeing to begin the fast at that time.
The event will kick off at 2:30 PM that afternoon at church.
The group will be active in Bible studies, famine-related activities and games before we head out to see the Nationals v. Astros game which begins at 7 PM.

Saturday, July 23rd the group will wake up and head over to Fort Belvoir to help with the “Camo Kit Stuffing Party” which makes packages for soldiers overseas.
We will break out fast with communion at the Saturday Worship service.
Families are invited to celebrate with us!
After the service we will join in a pot luck dinner provided by our youth families.
The meal concludes the event by 8 PM.

Be sure to sign up for the Famine by Sunday, July 17, so we can get enough Nationals tickets and so forth. And now is a great time to start getting friends and families signed up to sponsor you while you fast! The deadline to sign up for the 30 Hour Famine is Sunday, July 17th! Please feel free to contact Erika if you have any questions or concerns. W)451.5855 H)703.455.0425

What is World Vision?

World Vision is a nonprofit, Christian relief and development organization dedicated to meeting the needs of children, families, and communities regardless or race, color, or creed. World Vision has been in existence for over 50 years. Each year, more than 80 million people in nearly 100 countries receive the hope of a brighter future through thousands of World Vision projects worldwide.

Be among the first to check out the video of our very own 30 Hour Famine announcement, “Did You Know?”, featuring your youth group friends. You'll also be able to see the video on the big screens at services this weekend!
A special thanks to Matt Seemann for producing the youth's famine video. Matt, there is no way we could have achieved this task without your help. Thanks for lending your time and talent!

Michael W. Smith, one of Christian music’s greatest, will be in concert in Woodbridge on Sunday, Aug. 14 at 6 pm. He puts on an absolutely amazing show and we’d like to put a group together to go if there is interest. Tickets are $28 individually, but if we get a group of 10 or more, the price drops to just $20/piece.

Please let me know asap if you’d like to attend so we can purchase tickets.

Blessings, Erika
