Commanders Message

Greetings Fellow Legionnaires and AuxiliaryCommander: Doug Smith

Well, this is my last message as commander of Post 48, the past year has
really flown by. At times it seems like yesterday I was taking the seat to facilitate my first meeting. I would like to thank the officers that served with me during my term; they kept me on the straight and narrow. The new commander Don Fuller and his slate of officers will make us proud in the upcoming year Good Luck in your new position.

I would like to thank all the members that participated in the Memorial Day service. The following members attended the service at Hampton University National Cemetery, Robert O’Keefe, Don Blagg, Paul Kline, Billy Schmidt and Myself the Post provided a wreath to be placed at the cemetery. Following the service at the National Cemetery the Post conducted two wreath-placing services at the grave sites of our fallen brothers, Wendell Fuller and Michael O’Keefe. The color guard presented the colors for each service. I would like to thank Tom Boyd, Chuck Whitley, Larry Beilharz and Tommy Smith they did an excellent job. Of course I can’t leave out our bugler Billy Schmidt for the playing of taps.

Summer is just around the corner, remember to set back and spend times with the family have fun at the beach, pool, park and cook outs. With that, Legion baseball is starting check the game schedule and lets support our boys this season.

For God and Country
Commander: Doug Smith
