Jerry W. Cox
Jerry W. Cox helps clients deal with
government. His multi-faceted legal and
public affairs services encompass every stage of government decision-making
from congressional/regulatory affairs to strategy development and civil/appellate litigation, Representative clients include technology
developers,
manufacturers
of
transportation safety and security equipment, defense and homeland security contractors, transportation service
providers and major insurance organizations.
Mr. Cox manages clients’ participation in various
types of government investigations, regulatory enforcement proceedings, product safety recalls and related litigation. He also facilitates the “migration” of
military and law enforcement technology to public safety, commercial and
homeland security applications.
Mr. Cox deals regularly with the Departments of Homeland
Security, and Transportation (particularly the Federal
Aviation and Traffic Safety Administrations), several independent agencies with
jurisdiction over various aspects of commerce and trade and related
congressional oversight committees.
Former United States Senator and United Nations Ambassador John C. Danforth appointed Mr. Cox his
Legislative Counsel. Danforth chaired
the U.S.
Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation and the Senate
Subcommittee
on International Trade. Mr. Cox
was responsible for defense and intelligence matters and the entire range of
technology, telecommunications and transportation issues pending in the
Commerce Committee. Mr. Cox was a
co-author of the U.S. Supreme Court brief for the independent insurers when
they won a unanimous decision reinstating the safety standard requiring airbags
in automobiles.
An honors graduate of the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton
University, Mr. Cox received a law degree from the University
of Virginia School of Law, where he was
Associate Editor of the Virginia Law
Weekly and a member of the Moot Court Board. He is a long-time advisor to several
influential nonprofit organizations, the U.S. Council on Competitiveness, the National
Insurance Crime Bureau, the Dangerous Goods Advisory Council
and the Forerunner
Foundation, a Washington think tank for which he is Managing Director.
