These are the questions we are frequently asked by the media, family, friends & the general public. Our answers here won't be edited for "political correctness".
How is the family doing? Jim & I had been back at work since the end of June, 2001. Michael is now a senior in high school. The days are a little easier when we maintain our regular routines as much as possible. We each have low moments throughout the day, but we agree that night is the hardest time as it means that another day has come & went without news about Jason. When we go to bed & lay our heads down on our pillows, we wonder where he lays his head at night.
How do you cope with this tragedy? It is ONLY by the grace of God that we are able to continue on & face each new day without our Jason. Secondly, we are abundantly blessed with a supportive family, co-workers, friends, parish family, & a caring community. We are in awe of the compassionate people of Omaha, Grand Island, & the surrounding communities. We gain strength from the support of all of you in your prayers & actions.
What will you do when Jason comes home? After he is home & is doing fine, we will have a huge celebration not unlike the return of the prodigal son in the New Testament. We look forward with great joy & anticipation for that moment.
What will you do if he isn't found? Of course, we pray that it be God's Will that Jason come home to us, but if it is not to be, then we shall thank God for the nineteen wonderful years that we were blessed to have him with us. As far as efforts go, we would never stop looking for him.
Aren't you angry with God about this? No. God gives us all the gift of free will. We all make choices in regards to our lives & often times these choices are not His Will & subsequently hurt others. Sometimes, God does play a part in allowing the suffering of His children. He does this to test their faith in Him, but He never gives them more than they can bear. If our suffering brings us closer to God, then it is a gift indeed. Remember, no pain or suffering even compares to that of Jesus, in His Passion. Never forget what He did out of love for us!
What are the police doing about it? The police have checked out all leads & are currently awaiting tips from the public. We appreciate their efforts. We must try to understand that in missing adult cases, unless some definitive evidence of foul play is found, there is simply not the manpower to devote to what typically amounts to a willful disappearance on the part of the loved one. Other cases, such as last July's serial robber case, take precedence, as that directly impacts the safety of the citizens. The police, after all, are there "To Protect & To Serve". We also have two private detectives on the case. As difficult as it may be at times, we must be patient & let them do their jobs.
Why don't you seek help from a physic? We believe that only God knows the answers that we seek in regards to our son's whereabouts. We also believe that it may be His Will that this is not revealed to us. Of course, we want to know that he is alive & well, but we must trust in God. If someone hired a physic on our behalf, we would listen to what was told to us, but in the end we would not hold to that revelation as the absolute truth. We also have ongoing expenses due to Jason's disappearance, & hiring a physic does not fit into the budget.
What do you think happened to him? We honestly do not know. There are an abundance of theories, which include running away, suicide, cult abduction, murder, & many more, none of which we can agree with in all totality. No amount of theorizing will bring him back, so it seems futile to expend much energy trying to reach a conclusion. Some options are obviously, quite painful to think about, although these things may be true. In the end, only God knows where Jason is. Aside of the work involved in searching for him, we would rather use our energies to pray for his safety & return, & to pray for the well being of our family.
What can we do to help? We are asking that each family put up at least 5 posters, & for those that cannot aid in poster distribution, we ask for prayers for the safe return of our son, Jason. You can also mail the requested letters to your elected officials as explained on the "Take Action!" page.
