Be Mine, My Valentine

Out of a rock,
Gold and diamonds are formed.
Out of an oyster,
Comes a satiny pearl.
Out of the dirt,
A carnation is born,
And out of my ache,
God has blessed me with you.
Be mine, my Valentine.

You're a part of me now,
Of my heart and my soul.
God's most perfect creation,
You are now in my life.
To be flesh of my flesh,
And bone of my bone,
For an eternity through.
That's my hope and desire.
Be mine, my Valentine.

The time has now come,
To acknowledge my love.
So in the presence of God,
And our family of friends,
Here's a bouquet of flowers,
And a loving request.
Helen Lorraine,
Will you marry me,
And be mine, my Valentine, forever?

This was my wedding proposal poem.  Three weeks later, on Valentines Day, I read this to Helen, my love.  As I began to read the last paragraph, I went down on one knee and took off my Stetson. Caught off guard, Helen breathlessly said YES.  It was one of the happiest days of my life and what a blessing she continues to be!
