The Greatest Prayer

The greatest prayer you'll ever pray,
Is not for money, love or things.
The greatest prayer that you can pray,
Will give your spirit wings.

For ever since your time of birth,
You've been sentenced unto death,
As Satan tries, each and every day,
To steal your spiritual breath.

With attractions and with busy things,
He blinds your eyes to life,
To keep you walking by yourself,
And destined for eternal strife.

But in your heart, an emptiness,
Actively cries out to be filled,
And nothing this world can ever give,
Will cause it to be stilled.

Only God can fill that empty space,
And truly set you free.
The greatest prayer you'll ever pray,
A personal salvation plea.

In this poem, I tried to convey the essence of the thought that praying the prayer of salvation is the single most important thing you ever can do. Without salvation, paid for by Christ's death, you are existing but you have no life! A dead man walking, so to speak.

At this very moment in time, do you have a confidence within you that you have a secure relationship with God?  If He was to come tomorrow, are you sure you would be ready?  If someone asked you how they could have a relationship with God and be ready should He come, could you tell them?  If you have any doubts, its time to get confident!!

In the Bible Jesus says that to have a relationship with God we must be born again.  Of course, that's not a physical rebirth but a spiritual one. The Bible goes on to tell us that we are three part beings.  We have a body (our earth suit), a soul (our mind, will, and emotions) and a spirit.  Ever since the rebelliousness of Adam in the Garden of Eden, mankind has taken on that sinful nature which prevents us from having a true relationship with God.

To re-establish that true relationship our spirit must experience a new birth. In doing this we must believe and do a few things. First, we must believe that the blood Christ shed on the cross paid for all our sins (past, present, and future). This does not give us free license to continue our old ways but it should give us freedom from our past and hope for the future.  Secondly, we should know and believe that Christ's resurrection has restored the ability to have that true relationship with God that was lost when Adam rebelled. Finally, we must make Christ the owner/ruler of our life. He paid the price to set us free. We, therefore, should honor Him with our love and obedience by following the Word of God.  When you think about it, we haven't done such a great job in running our own lives! He does so much better.

Next thing to do is to repent. All that means is to make the decision to change the way you're living your life and start living the way God would have you live it.  After you've made that decision to change, you need to put corresponding action to your decision. Not only must you say and believe you'll change, you must actually start doing the things you say and believe.  You can say and believe you'll change until the day you die but without action all that would be is a bunch of hot air! Once you put beliefs and words into action,  you'll experience a change and spiritual growth.

As time progresses, you'll notice that your ways of thinking, ways of doing, and ways of speaking have changed. You won't want to do or say the old things and you'll want more of the things God has for you.  I'm not saying it will always be easy or that you won't fall down but God will be there to help you out and up. When you're born again you're not born a full grown Christian.  Just like a baby, it takes time to learn and grow but if you keep your eyes and heart set on the Father, He'll help you each step of the way. Just keep reading the Word, keep praying, and stay in fellowship with other Christians through church attendance.

Now, if you are not sure of your relationship with God and you want to be sure, it's time to pray a salvation prayer. It can be the one that follows or something similar.  Just pray it out loud to God, with a true sincerity from the depths of your heart and He will be true to His word to set you free.  He's filled that empty space in my heart, healed all my hurts, given me a wonderful peace, and met all of my needs. Giving my life to Him was the best thing I ever did and it's the best thing you'll do!

Dear God,

I come to you in the name of Jesus. I now
realize I have a decision to make about my life.

I accept that Jesus died for me, shed His blood to
wash away my sins, and that He rose from the
dead, giving me the way to fellowship with You.

I turn my back on the life I have lived without
You, and I choose to follow Jesus from this
moment on.

I ask Jesus to be the Lord of my life, and live in
my heart.

I thank you, Almighty God, that you love me,
have forgiven me, and have accepted me as
Your child, and that I am right now a new
creation, born of God.

Thank You heavenly Father.

Amen (So be it.)
