1999 Dakota R/T

1 of 170 Built

This truck just screams
PURE ATTITUDE!!!

The powertrain she came from Chrysler with consists of a 5.9 liter (360c.i.d.) Magnum engine, 4 speed auto OD transmission, and 3.92 Limited Slip axle. More power than the factory Goodyear tires can take.

The factory also modifies the suspension with lower springs in the front and de-arched leaf springs in the back. This combined with heavy duty front and rear anti-sway bars and the 17 inch 55 series tires, lets this little hot rod pull .83g on the skid pad (Motor Trend 5/98) For those of you who don't understand this figure, the R/T handling figures are the same as the Camaro or Mustang.

Dodge built 6281 R/T's for the 1999 model year. Mine is the rarest color and cab style for the 1999 models, coming in at only 170 built. For more info on the production numbers, see my "Stuff I Didn't Know Where To Put" section.

Here she is the day after I brought her home Sept. 23, 1998. Her birthday is Sept. 10th at 7 a.m

This is the time slip from my first run down the 1/4 mile with the R/T. I turned a 15.110@89.556. Not too bad for a factory setup, but now it's time to unleash a few of MaMopar's hidden horsepower

This is what it looked like under the hood when I brought her home. Functional but too plain. So with wrenches in hand I proceeded to give her a face lift and create...

Yes, I really do get into working on my R/T, and no I don't have shoes on. Don't want to scratch anything.

The start of the mod frenzy. I added Mopar Performance headers, larger down pipes, a 14x3 K & N open element air filter, an upper radiator hose from a 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee, (so the air cleaner would fit), Magnecore KV-85 wires, Mopar Magnum aluminum valve covers, and a 180 degree thermostat.

The R/T came with the Infinity premium system consisting of the head unit you see here, (AM/FM/CD/CASS) and a 100watt amp that pushes 8 speakers. It's great for a factory system, but it will be upgraded someday.
