Stonehenge Rumors:

Stonehenge has been around for a long time and many rumors have been created and heard of. One of the many Rumors was that the Druids built Stonehenge. It was John Aubrey, who first linked Stonehenge to the Druids. Additionally, Dr. William Stukeley, another Stonehenge scientist, also claimed the Druids were Stonehenge's builders. Stukeley studied Stonehenge a century later than Aubrey and became so involved in the study of the Druid religion that he himself became one. Through his work he was very instrumental in popularizing the theory that Stonehenge was built by Druids. The theory/rumor was later proved wrong due to modern radio carbon detecting.
Another popular rumor about Stonehenge is that it's main purpose was for astronomical and/or a possible religious temple. See, during the winter equinox and summer solstice, the sun lines up directly with the gaps in the stones of Stonehenge.  Others believe that Stonehenge was not built primarily as an astronomical observatory. They believe that it is a misconception that it was built for this purpose because the earths orbit was different when Stonehenge was constructed and would not have lined up 5000 years ago. Stonehenge's main purpose has still not been found to this day. Researchers and scientists are still studying the ruins and are still attempting to find a logical theory of why Stonehenge was built. That seems almost impossible because Stonehenge was built in three long phases and all by different people/tribes.
Was it possible Merlin did this? As an ancient rumor has it, Merlin supposedly levitated the structure through the air from Ireland where it originally was. There are no written records of this happening and the history of this rumor hasn't been found yet. All we know is that this was a very old rumor that people told to their kids shortly after the time of Merlin. It still hasn't been proven whether the parents told the kids the rumors, but it's is believed to have been by scientists and then less people knew about this and then nobody knew about this rumor anymore. There are only few records of this rumor being spread.
In all, Stonehenge has many rumors as an old mysterous structure like this would have. Some were so stupid that they weren't even passed on. Some were so famous, people spent large amounts of money to prove these rumors true or false. Most of the rumors were listed in the books, but to find some less-popular ones, you really had to read the books. The rumor that the Druids built Stonehenge were so popular in my books. It was so talked about that they had a whole section (roughly 10 chapters) on that rumor. Some rumors on Stonehenge were spread widely, but some just sank and was forgotten about.
