League History

The Barry Brush League was conceived and produced by Barry Brush, and John Danenhauer, in 1988 ten teams were active the first years managers drafted two teams, and the inactive 10 teams were placed in dry dock for the first season...it worked well, with parity the main objective, and after the initial draft, teams were fairly close for a few years, talent wise. We had no trading of draft picks, even player trades(no 4 for 1s) and a unique system of a rookie draft, that kept "future pheenoms" out of the draft, until they had enough stats to help a weaker team, thus the 75 ab,40 ip qualifying #s. Eventually, some of these rules were voted out, but the Rookie rule is still in effect, and its been a great equalizer thru the years. The original name of the league was the Liberty League, but was changed for obvious reasons after Barrys death, due to a heart condition. Its ironic.....that a guy like Barry, who never would talk bad about anyone, and displayed so much heart, by never dwelling on his condition, would succumb to a heart condition,...I thought he had plenty. Barry was a great baseball fan, and loved to tell stories about his beloved Giants. If there is baseball in heaven, I know Barry is at the game....heck, he's at a doubleheader!!!! He loved this league, and it will go on.........JD
