Bridgeton Black Sox win 6th Title
in a row!!
Big Papi series MVP!!
5/15/2007 - Today the Bridgeton
Black Sox finished the World Series by beating a tough
Cook County Condors team 5-2. It
was the franchises 8th title in a row, and the Sox's 6th
since moving to Bridgeton in 2001.
Cook County who made a great playoff run upsetting Winnipeg
and the leagues top team Kortland
Krayt, played a hard fought series.
Game 1 - Matched Jake "The
Snake" Peavy vs "The Rocket" - The Condors opened quick with a HR by Miguel
Cabrera and RBI single by Tejeda to lead 2-0 after a half an inning. The
Sox however tied it in the bottom on a 2 RBI single by Vlad. The Condors
grabbed the lead again in the 2nd, and held it's one run lead until the
bottom of the sixth when David Ortiz doubled followed by a Vlad RBI single
and a Lance Berkman RBI double. The Condors kept scrapping and tied it
in the top of the 7th. It stayed that way into the 10th where the Condors
get 3 including a Ray Durham HR and hold on to win 7-4.
Condors lead series 1-0
Game 2 - Matched Mark prior
and A.J. Burnett - This game was all Sox from the beginning as they jump
out to a 6-0 lead by the 5th. Lead by Abreu and Ortiz. The Condors cut
it in half in the 7th on a 3 run HR by Torrealba, but it wasn't enough
as Huston Street shut the door to hold the Sox victory 6-3.
Series tied 1-1
Game 3 - Matched Bartolo
Colon and Johan Santana - The Sox get 2 in the top of the 1st on Ortiz
RBI single and a Cabrera error. They add one in the 5th only to see the
Condors get 2 back in the 6th and tie at 4 in the 8th on RBI singles by
Durham and Derek Lee. It stayed knotted at 4 until the bottom of the 11th
when Lee hits a walk off HR to give the Condors the win and series lead.
Condors lead 2-1
Game 4 - Matched Danny Haren
and Jake Peavy - This was the turning point in the series according to
Condor Manager Matt Surell. The Condors build a 4-0 lead behind Tejeda,
Luna and Dye, only to watch it disappear in the 5th as the Sox get to Peavy
and the pen scoring 4 behind Big Papi and Abreu. The Sox take the lead
in the 7th, on a Albert Pujols HR and Street holds on for a Sox 5-4 victory.
Series tied 2-2
Game 5 - Matched Roger Clemens
and Carlos Silva - What seemed like a mismatch, was quite the opposite
as Silva pitches the game of his life. He started off shaky giving up 2
in the 1st, but after that he calmed down and between him and the pen,
they would not allow another run in route to a 4-2 victory.
Condors lead 3-2
Game 6 - Matched Mark Prior
and A.J. Burnett - The Condors open the scoring with 2 runs in the first,
only to be matched again by the Sox in the bottom of the frame on a key
Big Papi double. The Sox get 2 more in the second, and hold that 4-2 lead
into the 7th. The Condors lead by Milton Bradley score 2 to bring it even,
only to watch the Sox bounce back once again getting 2 runs of their own
in the bottom of the 7th on another big double by Ortiz. The Condors grab
one back in the 8th on Lee's 2nd HR of the game, but Street pitched 2 solid
innings for his 3rd save of the series and sending this series to game
7!! Series tied 3-3
Game 7 - Was a rematch between
Johan Santana and Bartolo Colon - With the game knotted at 1 in the 4th,
the Sox break through, and get to Santana on a big 3 -run HR by Jason Varitek.
This was Varitek's only hit of the series!! The Sox hold that lead into
the 8th as the Condors get 1 back only to see series MVP David Ortiz homer
to give the Sox a 5-2 lead. Street comes in and slams the door for his
4th save of the series as the Black Sox win their 6th straight World Series,
and 8th in franchise history!!
Sox win series 4-3
