Radon Reduction Services The basic price for an evaluation of indoor radon
concentration is $160. The building to be tested must be in closed-house conditions for a period of at least 12 hours before the beginning of the radon measurements. The inspection begins with a visit to the site and interview with the owner or occupant. In this part of the inspection we are looking for various factors that could affect the indoor air quality in the building. We look for things like:
During this part of the inspection, a radon detection device is placed near the center of the building. If the continuous monitor is not available, the price of the test will be discounted. A single device is usually sufficient for a building up to 2500 square feet in size. This assumes a reasonably compact building with a single foundation type. If the building has more than one type of foundation (e.g., crawlspace and slab), then additional devices are probably required. If a building is on a hillside, or if it is long or U-shaped, then it may also requires additional devices. Each additional device costs $40. This first visit is cursory and only requires 30-45
minutes. Typically, the inspection starts first thing in
the morning, 7-9 AM. After 48 hours from placement, the radon devices are
retrieved. We, of course, need access to the building, but the owner or occupant
need not be present for the retrieval. If the continuous monitor is used, then I can immediately provide a verbal report on the radon level by telephone. Note that radon test results can only be given to the person contracting for the inspection or his representative. (This may not be the owner.)
