| Upper South Wall, Smugglers
Notch -- 1 March, 2002 This was the second ice climbing trip for the Narragansett chapter of the AMC. It was a great weekend, not too warm and we were pretty much the only group climbing in the Notch, so everything was open. John and I opted for the upper south wall below the bastard wall. A great section of ice ranging from NEI 2 - 3 with a long alpine approach. The first 5 pictures are from the climb we did. After we topped out, we hiked a short way up to the bastard wall, took a few pictures and then hiked back to rap down. From the top of this climb you're even with the top of the Stowe ski area. After the rap down, the hour climb up the snow gulley becomes a quick fun glissade back down to the floor of the notch. |
