Thomas L. Martin survived the war. In records obtained from the Natl Archives, he was promoted to 2nd SGT in Oct. 1863. He was severely wounded on the first day of the Battle of the Wilderness, May 5, 1864, and spent some time at the hospital in Staunton, VA. until the summer of 1864 when he is listed as absent. Hhe does appear on the Roll of Honor dated December 10, 1864.
It appears he was captured at some point because he appears on a report of POWs paroled in May 1865 in Memphis, TN.
He married Amanda Fisher of White Co., AR and lived there and then in Polk Co., AR. They had 7 children who survived to adulthood. He was a farmer and in 1893 he became a Deputy U.S. Marshal. On June 4, 1894, he was ambushed and shot to death on his front porch by some moon-shiners he had been investigating.
