RESEARCH/SUB-SPECIALTY INTERESTS: Research studies include both experimental and clinical projects. The experimental studies consisted of the characterization of metabolic myopathies. The clinical research involves studies of autopsy brain specimens from patients with dementia (including prion diseases) [the Oklahoma Alzheimer's Association established the Brumback Award for Outstanding Achievement in Alzheimer's Research] and of brains from infants with developmental malformations, as well as investigation of the neurobiologic basis of school problems and disorders of attention, learning, and behavior in children. "PDF" files can be read with the free Adobe Acrobat Reader software.
PERSONAL INTERESTS: As a self-described "born again conservationist", Dr. Brumback works with the American Society of Primatologists (ASP) for the conservation of primates, particularly for the study and protection of Brumback's Owl Monkey (Aotus brumbacki), as described in the article in the ASP Bulletin, Vol. 24, No. 2, entitled, New Species of Owl Monkey Re-Discovered....30 Years Later. [The world-renowned primatologist Philip Hershkovitz of the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago named the species Aotus brumbacki in a 1983 paper in the American Journal of Primatology.]
Another interest is the genealogy of ancestors in the Brumback and Deshler families.
