Drazi tending goats (Nigerian Dwarf and Pygmy).  Note them grazing right up to the edge of the graze.

They trust the dog.  Respecting her authority (they’d really prefer to be eating the

bushes on the other side of the dog), but not fearing her.  They know she will bite if

they disrespect her, but not bother them if they obey her commands. 

 

This is the tending ideal and every square inch of the graze plot will be grazed.  If the stock feared the dog,

they would stay away from the edges and that part of the plot would be essentially unavailable for grazing.

 

Though you can’t see her in this picture, Drazi’s mother Klaatu has responsibility for the right side of the graze.  That’s an oat field beyond the right furrow.
