The front of the 0-4-0 is very close to the track, so here is how I made a very efficient and inexpensive track cleaner out of my 0-4-0
Buy a box of
SELF ADHESIVE Velcro. you don't need much, I used white but it comes in black and tan also. Make sure its not the sew on type
Cut 2 small pieces of the "hard plastic"(loop) side of the Velcro.
peel the backing and stick one on each side of the underside of the front of the loco
Cut two larger stips (about one inch) from the fuzzy side of the Velcro
Peel the backing and fold it in half so it sticks together
Stick one of the fuzzies on each side of the loco
Add cleaner if you wish. I have found that most of the time the velcro is abrasive enough and does not require adding the cleaner in order to do a good job
Place the loco on the track. You might have to shift the velcro to one side or another or cut a larger piece in order to insure the pad stays on the rails through you curves
IN ACTION !!!
DIRTY DIRTY!!! ( I have some plastic wheels on this set )
When you're done you can flip the pads over and run them all the time. They do not create much drag at all!!
