TIVERTON –– They crowded into the function room at Brantal’s restaurant for more than two hours Wednesday night, roughly 100 concerned Rhode Islanders with something to say about Congressional efforts to overhaul the nation’s health-care system.
Loughlin announces town hall meeting
State Rep. John J. Loughlin II has become Rhode Island’s first congressional candidate to announce plans to host a health-care “town hall” meeting.
The Tiverton Republican reported Friday that he would send a DVD recording of his Sept. 30 public forum –– featuring a handful of local medical professionals –– to his likely opponent in the 2010 contest for Rhode Island’s First Congressional District seat, Rep. Patrick J. Kennedy.
Rep. John Loughlin to Run for Congress
Like many of you, I often complained that there has never been a serious challenge to Congressman Patrick Kennedy for the honor of representing Rhode Island in the U.S. Congress. Time after time the Rhode Island Republican Party put up weak candidates with no real political experience and the result has been that Congressman Kennedy has coasted to re-election year after year.
