jobs and the economy

Rescuing Rhode Island’s Economy and Creating Jobs —
“It’s the Jobs, Stupid!”

Rhode Island’s economy is a total mess. While our career politicians in Washington have done little to nothing to fix the underlying problems, our local economy steadily worsens. Sure, you will see giant checks being presented by the career politicians on the six-o-clock news, evidence, they say, that they “bring home the bacon,” but keep in mind that check represents money borrowed from the Chinese government that you, your children and even your grandchildren will be forced to pay back in higher taxes. Rhode Island needs more taxpayers not more taxes. As your congressman, I pledge to you to work everyday on raising the economic tide in the Ocean State. We need a congressman who clearly understands that it’s your money, you earned it, you should decide how to spend it, not some career politician or unelected bureaucrat. Its time we give your money back to you.

energy independence

America Needs Energy Independence — Now

The first step is to lower energy prices, not come up with new ways to raise them like Cap & Trade. The high cost of energy is forcing many Rhode Island families and businesses to cut back. I believe its time to stop cutting back and begin fighting back. Let’s begin producing energy at home while investing in American-made renewable technology like solar, wind, and wave, and break our dependence on foreign sources. Perhaps the biggest threat to our security is an all-out or nuclear or other massive conflict in the oil rich Middle East. If such a conflict broke out, our economy would collapse, largely because the career politicians have done nothing to increase domestic production of energy.

health care

First Things First, Let’s Reduce Health Care Costs

I believe that empowering people to make their own health care choices is the key to reaching the goal of quality, affordable, accessible care. We need to focus our efforts on reducing the incredibly high costs associated with healthcare first, then look to expand coverage. By rushing into a socialized medicine, we vastly increase the size of the deficit while at the same time putting our health care in the hands of the same people who brought you the registry of motor vehicles. Washington is so ill-equipped to estimate costs, they routinely pay $5,000 for a hammer and can’t even get the Cash for Clunkers program right. Remember? They estimated that funds that ran out in a week, would last until November, 2009. Does it make any sense at all to give these same career politicians control over 1/6th of the US economy?

national security

National Security

As a former Army Lieutenant Colonel and combat helicopter pilot, I will bring a unique perspective and unmatched experience to the Congress. War should only be used as the last resort, not the first resort. When we commit our men and women to conflict, we need clear achievable goals and an exit strategy that keeps us from being mired in never-ending police actions. We need a strong military ready to respond when needed and trained, equipped and lead to ensure victory.

environment

The Environment —
Protecting Rhode Island's future legacy

In the Rhode Island General Assembly, I built a strong record of protecting the environment. I was instrumental in amending the 2009 budget to include money for Open Space and preservation of farms. Rhode Island is, by far, the most beautiful, and historic state in America. Much needs to be done to ensure that the rural character of our communities is safeguarded and protected from reckless development, urban sprawl and environmental damage. I will fight every day to ensure that our treasured way of life becomes a legacy we can share with our children and grandchildren.
