bridge fines passes
What started
as a weight limit for trucks traveling over the
Pawtucket and Sakonnet river bridges morphed into
a compromise last night that relies on promises
the state police will not slap truckers who have
laminated “empty” signs in their windows
with new $3,000 fines aimed at raising money for
the cash-strapped state.

April 26—House passes revised
budget
After five hours of extended debate,
partisan sniping, petty niggling and sometimes impassioned,
reasoned argument, the House of Representatives approved
a revised budget for the current year on a vote of
60-12, virtually identical to the package passed
by the finance committee earlier this week.

residents of a polluted waterfront neighborhood in
Tiverton and to clean up the massive contamination
that made the soil under their homes blue, lawyers
