"Study to show thyself
approved unto God,
a workman that needeth
not to be ashamed, rightly
dividing the word of truth."

Are your children sanctified?

Did you know?

Your child's destiny is in your hands if he/she has not yet reached the age of accountability.

When a child is born he is a sinner even though he is not old enough to understand what he is doing is wrong.

  1. I Corinthians 15:22
Because of Adam's sin in the Garden of Eden, we are all born by natural birth with a sinful nature. Therefore, we are all in need of being born again in Christ.

  2. Psalms 51:5
    We were conceived in sin.

You must have faith in God to please Him.

  1. Hebrews 11:6

Before you can experience your personal new birth, you must have faith in God and His Word. Faith (understanding and belief) is necessary before baptism, which negates infant baptism. However, with regard to original sin then, those infants and children that die before they understand their state of sin (separation from God) are eternally lost.

The above statement would only be true if both parents of the child were sinners. Remember the story of the great flood where everyone was destroyed except Noah, his wife, his three sons, and their wives. Also remember the story of Sodom and Gomorrah that was destroyed by fire from heaven. In both of these cases the children of the heathen idol worshipping sinners were also destroyed even though they were too young to know their sin. Only the children of the righteous such as Noah's sons and Lot's daughters were saved.

You can prevent your children from being lost.

  1. I Corinthians 7:12-14
This scripture seems to indicate that if there is at least one parent in the family that is a believer who can influence the child to serve God then the child is sanctified until it reaches the age of accountability. This age is different in every individual.

  2. James 4:17
This scripture tells us that person looses the sanctification of his parents when he has increased in knowlege enough to know the right thing to do and refuses to do it.

  3. Hebrews 11:6
This scripture tells us that we must believe that God is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

  4. Matthew 10:32-33
This scripture tells us that if we accept Jesus we will be accepted into heaven and if we reject Jesus we will be rejected from heaven.

The short version

  1. Concerning the parents

    • The start your child gets is up to you.

    • If at least one parent is a Christian the child is sanctified if it has not yet reached the age of accountability.

    • If both parents are sinners the child is lost if it has not yet reached the age of accountability.

  2. Concerning the child

    • When the child reaches the age of accountability he has two choices.

    • He can accept Jesus, obey His Word, and be saved. (Even if both parents are lost.)

    • He can reject Jesus, be rejected by Jesus, and be lost. (Even though both parents are saved.)
