Do not defraud your neighbour.
- "Neighbour"refers to anyone we come into contact with, not just someone who lives near us. This
commandment regulating Israel's treatment of others was cited by Christ (Matthew 22:39), Paul
(Romans 13:9), and James (James 2:8).
- Leviticus 19:9-18
These verses describe practical ways for us to show love and
care for our neighbours
Feed your enemy if he is hungry.
- Proverbs 25:21-22
Doing good to your enemies may cause them to experience shame and eventually bring them
to God and salvation
Always pay the people you hire.
No more eye for an eye.
- Jesus changed the law concerning an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.
- Matthew 5:38-48
Jesus is not speaking against the administration of proper justice toward those who are evil.
The verses that follow indicate that He is referring to loving one's enemies. We are not to react to the
wrong done toward us in a spirit of hate, but in a way that shows we have values that are centered in
Christ and His kingdom. Our actions toward those who are unkind to us should be such that it might
lead them to accept Christ as their Savior.
As examples of this spirit, compare:
- Genesis 13:1-13 with Genesis 14:14
- Genesis 50:19-21 with Genesis 37:18-28

Follow Jesus.
- Matthew 16:24-27
Follow Jesus and live a Christlike life. You will be rewarded.
Consider your reward.
- Will you be rewarded for your good works, or will you be rewarded for your evil works?
- You will get a reward in Heaven for your good works ( Providing you have been saved by faith
and baptism ).
- You will receive a reward in Hell for your evil works.
- The choice is yours.
