Mans' Rod
The rod of the wicked.
The rod of the wicked is the tongue of an evil person. If a person is righteous they cannot be hurt by a
wicked person's tongue.
- Psalm 125:2-3
As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the LORD is round about his people from henceforth
even for ever. For the rod of the wicked shall not rest upon the lot of the righteous; lest the righteous put forth
their hands unto iniquity.
Tongue lashing
Have you ever heard of giving a person a tongue lashing ? The tongue is the rod a man is to use to give
understanding to a person who is void of understanding.
- Proverbs 10:13-21
In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found: but a rod is for the back of him that is
void of understanding. Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction. The
rich man's wealth is his strong city: the destruction of the poor is their poverty. The labour of the righteous
tendeth to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin. He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that
refuseth reproof erreth. He that hideth hatred with lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool. In the
multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise. The tongue of the just is as
choice silver: the heart of the wicked is little worth. The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for
want of wisdom.
Use your rod
If you don't use your rod (your tongue) to correct your child then you hate your child.
- Proverbs 13:24
He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.
The rod of a man is in his mouth.
- Proverbs 14:3
In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.
Train up (not beat up) a child.
The rod of correction is your tongue so use it to correct your children.
- Proverbs 22:6
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
- Proverbs 22:15
Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.
Give the child a good tongue lashing.
Teach him the ways of God so that he can become a righteous person and become saved and escape hell.
Don't fail to teach your children.
If we fail to teach our child the right ways then he will (through peer pressure) do wrong and shame us.
- Proverbs 29:15
The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.
Hear ye the rod.
- Micah 6:9
The LORD'S voice crieth unto the city, and the man of wisdom shall see thy name: hear ye the rod,
and who hath appointed it.
