Prophecy Chart 2
Seventy Weeks
Daniel 9:24-27 = Seventy periods of seven years each
Daniel 9:24. Daniel's prophecy here concerning Israel and the holy city is crucial for the last days of this age. The word translated "weeks" here means a unit of seven years. Hence, "seventy weeks" is a period of 490 years.
Six specific things would be accomplished for Israel during the 490 years.
- An atonement for iniquity will be made. This was accomplished in
the atoning death of Jesus.
- Romans 11:26 - There will be "an end of sins." All Israel (the remnant)
Will return to God in righteousness.
- Jeremiah 33:7-8; Ezekiel 37:21-23 - The "transgression" will be finished;
the national transgression of unbelief will cease.
- Isaiah 59:2-21; Jeremiah 31:31-34 - A rule of "everlasting righteousness"
will be brought in.
- Prophecy will be fulfilled and completed.
- Ezekiel 21:26-27 Jesus Christ will be anointed as King.
B.C. 445 to A.D. 29.
The first 69 weeks of Daniel 9:24-27. (69 periods of 7 years each)
- Daniel 9:25
God revealed to Daniel that sixty-nine periods of sevens, 483 years, would
occur between the time of the commandment to rebuild Jerusalem and the coming
of the Messiah, the Anointed One. There are differences of opinion as to the exact
time when the 483 years began. Some say 538 B.C., when the decree of Cyrus was
given; that decree, however, was for the rebuilding of the temple, not the city. Most
likely it began in 457 B.C., when Ezra retumed and began rebuilding the city
(Ezra 4:12-13,16; 4:11,23); that would make the 483 years end in A.D. 26, when
Jesus began His ministry.
- Daniel 9:26.
After the "sixty-nine weeks" (483 years), two things would happen:
- The Messiah would be "cut off," or crucified (Isaiah 53:8).
This prophesy in Isaiah was fulfilled in A.D. 29.
- The "people of the prince that shall come" would destroy Jerusalem
and the temple. The "people" are the Roman army, which destroyed
Jerusalem in A.D. 70 (Luke 21:20). The "prince" refers to the end-time
antichrist.
Note - The destruction of Jerusalem did not follow immediately after the
crucifixion of Christ. Thus, the conclusion of the sixty-nine weeks are separated from the
beginning of the seventieth week by an interval of time.
Many interpreters say that the church age is the interval between the sixty-ninth and
seventieth sevens.
Daniel did not see (in his prophesy) the Church Age that sets between Messiah being cut
off from the Jews and the Great Tribulation.
A.D. 29 to A.D. 2029
After two days. Hosea 6:1-2
Here Hosea is giving the prophecy to Israel that God will revive them 2000 years after
the time Messiah is cut off. Then for 1000 years they will live in His sight. We know that each
of these days is equal to 1000 years when we read II Peter 3:8.
- The first two days (2000 years) of the Hosea 6:2 prophecy is the
Church age between Christs crucifixion and His Second Comming when Christ will set up
His 1000 year reign of peace. These two days should be from about A.D. 29 to about
A.D. 2029.
- The third day (1000 years) of the Hosea 6:2 prophecy is
Christ's 1000 year reign of peace. This third day should be from about A.D. 2029 to
about A.D. 3029.
Rapture of the Church
A.D. 2022 or before
- I Thessalonians 5:9 - The Rapture of the Church is before the
great tribulation. Also see Bible Study The Rapture
The Great Tribulation.
About A.D. 2022 (70th week of Daniel 9:24-27)
- The great tribulation must start at least 7 years before 2029 so when Christ returns and sets
up His 1000 year reign of peace the Jews will be able to live in his sight according to the
Hosea 6:2 prophecy.
Daniel 9:27 The making of a covenant between "the prince that shall come"
and Israel will signal the beginning of the seventieth week, the final seven years of this age.
Concerning this event, the Bible teaches the following:
- II Thessalonians 2:3-10; 1 John 2:18;Daniel 11:39 - The prince
who will make the covenant with Israel is the antichrist, but he will be unrevealed at the
time. Evidently a peace treaty will be negotiated by the antichrist between Israel and its
enemies concerning a land dispute.
- II Thessalonians 2:4; Revelation 11:1-2; 13:4-60 In the middle of
the seven years (after three and one-half years), the prince will break his covenant with
Israel, declare himself to be God, take over the temple in Jerusalem, forbid worship of
the Lord, and devastate Palestine. He will reign for three and one-half years, also see read
The Age Of The AntiChrist.
- The prophetic significance of "the abomination" of desolation will be known only to the
faithful of God (Daniel 12:10-11). Jesus said that believers must take
heed concerning this pivotal sign, for it will bring the final three and one-half year countdown
to His coming to earth in glory (Matthew 24:15). By taking heed,
believers in the tribulation will know Christ's coming is near, even at the door
(Matthew 24:33). Also read about The
Great Tribulation. The coming of the Messiah (II Thessalonians 2:8;
Rev. 19:11-20) will occur at the end of the seven years or the second three and
one-half years. Revelation confirms the time by statmg twice that the antichrist ("the beast")
will have power for only forty-two months (Rev. 11:1-2; 13:4-6). Daniel
later states again that it will be three and one-half years ("a time, times, and an half") from
the time of great distress to the end (Daniel 12:7).
- In the three and one-half years allotted to the antichrist, Jerusalem will continue to be
trodden down by the Gentiles (Revelation 11:2).
- The "abomination that maketh desolate" is the unmistakable sign that the great tribulation
has begun (Daniel12:11; Matthew 24:15-21; Deuteronomy 4:30-31;
Jeremiah 30:5-7; Zechariah 13:8-9).
- The tribulation and the rule of the antichrist will end with the coming of Christ in power
to judge the wicked (Matthew 25:31-46), to destroy the antichrist, and
to begin His millennial reign (Jeremiah 23:5-6; Matthew 24:27,30).
- Christ referred to Daniel's vision when he said: "when ye therefore shall see the
abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet" (Matthew 24:15).
Jesus' remark is probably about the future desecration of the temple in jerusalem by the
antichrist (II Thessalonians 2:3-4; Revelation 13:14-15). Also read about
The Age Of The AntiChrist).
