Who or what is the Holy Ghost?

It doesn't matter whether you say Holy Ghost, Holy Spirit, or Spirit of God, you are talking about the same thing. It all comes back around to "A throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne" (Revelation 4:2).

Consider the following:

Matthew 1:18 we see that Mary "was found with child of the Holy Ghost". Here we see that the Holy Ghost existed before Jesus was born.

Matthew 3:11-12 where John was talking about Jesus, saying, "He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire".

If you believe in Jesus according to John 3:16-18 then would you not do as He commanded in John 3:3-7.

When Jesus was teaching about the "new Birth" in John 3:3-7, He said, "Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God".

Jesus said in John 14:15 "If you love me, keep my commandments".

Romans 14:17 For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. If you don't comply with John 3:3-7 then you will not enter into the "righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost" spoken of in Romans 14:17.

In Matthew 28:18-20 Jesus told His disciples to "teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of.....". You will notice that the word "name" is in the singular form indicating that there is only one name to be used.

Luke 24:45-49 Jesus is quoted as saying that "repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name". This tells us what the name is in Matthew 28:19. This is confirmed by the prophecy about the birth of Jesus in Isaiah 9:6.

Isaiah 9:6-7 we see that the name of the son will be called (among other things) "The mighty God, The everlasting Father". So why do people beleive that Jesus is called Wonderful, Counsellor, The Prince of Peace but refuse to believe that He is the mighty God and the everlasting Father.

John 14:8-11 Philip asked Jesus to show them the Father. Jesus said, "Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father", "Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me?". Jesus is saying that He is the Father as prophecied in Isaiah 9:6. Picture a balloon filled with air and let the air represent the Father (The Invisible Spirit of God that is everywhere) and the balloon represent the body of Jesus. The balloon is in the air which is everywhere on earth and all the qualities of the air are in the balloon just like Jesus is in the Spirit of God which is everywhere and all the fullness of the Godhead is in Him bodily. (Colossians 1:19; Colossians 2:19)

John 14:15-18 + 26 we se Jesus telling His disciples that when He leaves that the "Spirit of truth" will come to comfort them. He also tells them that they already know the "Spirit of truth because" He is dwelling with them and shall be in them. Then Jesus says, "I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you". Then He says that the Comforter is the Holy Ghost. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that the Holy Ghost is Jesus coming back in another form. Instead if being with us physically, His Spirit will be in us.

Jesus is the only God that you will ever see because He is the express image of the invisible God. (Colossians 1:15; Hebrews 1:3)

  1. When you look in the mirror you don't see the second person of your trinity, you see the express image of yourself.

  2. When other people look at you they don't see the second person of your trinity, they see the express image of your spirit.

  3. Just as when we look at Jesus we don't see the second person of the Holy Trinity, we see the express image of the Spirit of God.

John 14:15 Jesus said "If you love me, keep my commandments".

Acts 1:2 Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:

John 20:21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.

Acts 2:36-39 we can see that the Apostles, who were taught by Jesus, knew what the one name was that is to be used in baptism. The Jews often used the word Lord when talking about God and the Apostles said that Jesus was both Lord and Christ, or both Father and Son. They also said, "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."

This is one Baptism with three parts:

  1. Your part is to repent, (turn away from sin) and live for Jesus.

  2. Ministers part is to baptize you in water. (Born of the water)

  3. God's part is to baptize you with the Holy Ghost. (Born of the Spirit)

Acts 10:44-47 we find an example of people being baptized with the Holy Ghost before they are baptized in the name of Jesus with water.

Acts 19:1-7 we find people who were baptized in the name of Jesus with water before being baptized with the Holy Ghost.

I Corinthians 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

I Timothy 2:5-6 "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time."

II Timothy 1:13-14 "Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us."

Titus 3:5-7 "Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life."

Hebrews 2:3-4 "How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him; God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?"

Hebrews 9:8-10 "The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing: Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience; Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation."

Hebrews 11:6 "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."

James 2:17-20 "Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

I Peter 1:11-12 "Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow. Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into."

II Peter 1:20-21 "Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost."

I John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
