The Image Of God
- Genesis 1:26-27 - - We are told
that God created man in his own image.
- Genesis 2:7 - - We are also told
that man was formed of the dust of the ground, and received the
spirit of life; and became a living soul.
Here we can clearly see that "the image of God" is the
concept of a body and a spirit coming together to form a living soul.
- Colossians 1:14-17 - - Here we
read that Jesus is the "image of the invisible God".
- II Corinthians 4:3-4 - - Here we
read that Jesus is the image of God. Here the word image is in the
singular form showing that God has only one image.
- Hebrews 1:1-4 - - Here we read
that God is one person and that Jesus is the express image of his
person. This has to be because the words image and person are
both in the singular form.
- Isaiah 9:6-7 - - It is agreed that
this scripture is the prophesy of the birth of Christ. Many people,
however, ignore that the name of Jesus is to be called "The Mighty
God" and the "Everlasting Father".
- Matthew 28:18-20 and Luke 24:44-
49 do not conflict in any way as the words "in the name of"
and the words "in his name" are both in the singular form. This
indicates that there is only one name for the one person who is
known as "Father, Son, and Holy Ghost".
- Acts 2:37-39 - - The apostles,
who were taught by Jesus, knew what that one name was when they
said unto the people, "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in
the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall
receive the gift of the Holy Ghost".
- John 14:8-29
- In verses 8 thru 14 Jesus said
"He that hath seen me hath seen the Father", "Believe me that I am in
the Father, and the Father in me".
Now picture an inflated balloon. The air which is
everywhere is compared to the Spirit of God (The Father) and the
balloon is compared with the body of Jesus which is in one place.
The balloon is in the air and the air is in the balloon just as Jesus is in
the Father and The Father is in Jesus. Only one person with Jesus
being the image of that person just as you are the image of your
person. Here we see that Jesus is the Father.
- In verses 16 thru 18 Jesus was
not talking about "another Comforter" being another person of God,
but Himself in another form.
The comforter was with the apostles in the bodily form
of Jesus but He was to come back in Spirit form to dwell with them
and be in them. Jesus even said in, verse 18, "I will not leave you
comfortless: I will come to you." Here we see that Jesus is the Holy
Ghost.
- In verses 25 thru 29 Jesus
explains that the comforter is the Holy Ghost and that he is going
away but will come back to them.
- You can clearly see by this that the image of God is
only one person who is Spirit, Body, and Soul.
- Spirit = the Father or the Spirit of the invisible
God.
- Body = the Son or Jesus the begotten son of
Mary.
- Soul = the Spirit and the Body combined
together as the living Soul of God or Holy Ghost.
