He appears on a List of Rebel Deserters who have voluntarily taken and subscribed the oath of allegiance to the United States Government, at Knoxville, Tennessee, between Dec. 4 and 16, 1863, and, after confinement for a limited period, have been permitted to go to their homes when the same were situated within our lines, and in other cases were sent to Kentucky, to be there released. List dated Office of Provost Marshal Genl. of East Tenn., Knoxville, Tenn., Dec. 16, 1863. Residence: 10 Civil District, Roan County, State Tenn. Final disposition: Released here [Roll 1, sheet 4]. He also served in another unit of Tennessee Cavalry, Welker's Bn. , Kincaid's Co. He appears on an undated muster roll of Welker's Batt'n Cav. (State Troops) Mustered into the service of the Confererate States for the period of six months, and for service only in Tennessee, and entitled only to pay and subsistance while on duty under the orders of the President, or by his direction.
