“Primarily a studio painter, I gather my inspiration from nature through the use of a camera and sketchbook. Using this visual information as a guide, I proceed to develop a composition. I often begin to give definition to areas working from large shapes to small. Around this time the painting takes on an energy of its own. Instead of my being in complete control, the painting commands the direction. The results are often vastly different from my original preconceived idea of the finished work.”
