TESTING FOR
TICK-BORNE DISEASE

These laboratories are known for their excellent reputation for testing for tick-borne disease. With any lab, when a Western Blot test is ordered, it's important to specify the following request:
"Please report all bands, including CDC non-specific bands."

Stony Brook Laboratory

Fry Laboratories

IgeneX, Inc.

Central Florida Research, Inc.

Medical Diagnostic Laboratories

"The diagnosis of Lyme disease is based primarily on clinical findings, and it is often appropriate to treat patients with early disease solely on the basis of objective signs and a known exposure."

It's important, when evaluating for possible infection by a tick bite which incurred while visiting an area which is endemic for Lyme disease, that a comprehensive work up be done to also look for the possible tranmission of other tick-borne disease.

In addition to the Lyme ELISA and Lyme Western Blot IgG, IgM and Lyme PCR, the following tests should also be ordered:

Babesia PCR Babesia microti

Human granulytic ehrlichiosis, now known as Anaplasma Phagocytophila.

Human monocystic ehrliciosis

If at all possible, the following could also be part of a good screening for other known agents thought to be transmitted by ticks:

Bartonella henselae

Tularemia

You've received your Lyme Western Blot test results and they are negative. Is this really the truth, or can there be some other explanation? It is helpful to learn more about your Western Blot test results and be able to understand their clinical significance.
