Apostrophes



1. Use an apostrophe and the letter s on singular nouns and plural nouns NOT ending in s to show possession.  Add just an apostrophe to plural nouns ending in s to show possession.
 

2. Add an apostrophe and s to form the plural of letters, numerals, symbols and words that refer to themselves.

bullet Ex:  Dot your i's.
bullet Ex:  Make your 4's and 9's correctly.


3. Use an apostrophe in contractions to replace missing letters.

bullet Ex:  it's (it is)
bullet Ex:  you're (you are)
bullet Ex:  doesn't (does not)
