Qualities of Good Writing

 

Content and Organization:
 
bullet Conveys a message related to the prompt (topic or description of a situation).
bullet Includes supporting ideas or examples.
bullet Follows a logical order.
bullet Conveys a sense of completeness.

Language:

bullet Exhibits word choice appropriate to the audience, the purpose and the subject..
bullet Includes clear language.

Writing Conventions (rules):

bullet Contains complete sentences and may contain purposeful fragments.  (example: when someone is speaking, they may not talk in full sentences.)
bullet Exhibits subject-verb agreement
bullet Contains standard forms of verbs and nouns.
bullet Exhibits appropriate punctuation.
bullet Exhibits appropriate capitalization.
bullet Contains correct spelling.
bullet Is legible.
