Hahnemuhle Photo Matte: This paper was submitted to me by a reader of the site, with a request that I test it for orange shift. It's very interesting. The surface is much less warm than the Epson HWM. In fact, it has a slight magenta cast. The cast is noticeable even compared to the Epson Archival Matte, which is whiter than HWM. It's a rather thin paper, lighter than the HWM, and suffers a bit (but only a bit) from paper curl when printed.
Using the Epson Photo Paper setting (which was recommended by my benefactor), results are actually very nice. The gray scale is very neutral, and colors are slightly brighter than on HWM. The difference is very slight, however. It's really only noticeable in the Inkjetart.com test target. In the photodisc test target I really can't notice the difference.
Using the HWM setting, however, results are very slightly more saturated. I like it even better. Again, the difference in the photodisc target is very slight. Given equal price and availability, I might choose the Hahnemuhle over the Epson (assuming good fade and shift resistence), but the difference is very, very small.
Originally, I though the orange shift problem only occurred on glossy papers. Unfortunately, this is one matte paper that proves me wrong. After 5 days in the ozone chamber, it's shifted as almost as badly as the glossy papers I had under test at the same time.
