Coast
Cottages is a new community on St. Simons Island, yet it has the feel of the
old, comfortable beach town. Once you turn onto the brick street, you step
back into a time of sand pails full of shells, hermit crabs in the sink, and
castles on the beach.
Annie Laurie Cottage carries out the theme of old island vacations but has all of the comforts of a modern home:
FIRST FLOOR
Entry Hall--Right away you know you are "home". There's the old hall tree for beach hats to hang on, and the old family photos of seaside vacations long ago.
Master Bedroom & Bath--Decorated in yellow and blue, the master bedroom has a king-sized custom built bed and original artwork. You'll enjoy sitting in one of the two antique metal lawn chairs in the room after your stroll on the beach. Pretend you are a child again in the rubber ducky bathroom!
Guest Bedroom and Bath--A second bedroom serves adults or children with its nautical theme. Antique chenille bedspreads cover the queen-sized bed. The owner's old toy chest serves as a luggage rack; open it up and you will find treasures, toys, and dress-up clothes. There is a full bathroom adjacent (check out the "valance" on the window and the creative holder for spare toilet paper).
Children's bedroom and bath--The third bedroom on this floor has a bunkbed and is decorated with a U.S. Coast Guard theme. Kids will love the old children's books (all beach related, of course) and the cute bedspreads and pillow shams with pockets to store little treasures. A half-bath is a step away.
SECOND FLOOR
The second floor is where the whole house comes together. Decorated in vintage furniture, wicker, and traditional red-white-and-blue, the whole floor offers room for a crowd or nooks for a few. Put a puzzle together on the antique 1940's metal table; pretend you are at a diner when sitting on the swivel stools at the long bar in the kitchen; serve a meal of shrimp and hush puppies at the big round table with its glass top (its base is custom built to hold an old washboard and huge washtub). Be sure to look for all of the details in the decor: antique oyster plates, vintage Coast Guard pillow, red and white enamelware, and even a crusty, creative crab.
THIRD FLOOR
The secluded master suite . . . you'll feel miles away from your cares. End the day sleeping on the tall, custom-designed, king-sized bed, covered by white chenille and surrounded by mounds of white pillows--it's like sleeping in the clouds. Turn on the fireplace to set the mood--a more romantic setting cannot be found. Awake to one-of-a-kind sunrises. Then invigorate yourself in the whirlpool tub, or cover yourself with raindrops in the shower. Spend the afternoon curled up with a good book in the sitting room, or lounge in an Adirondack chair on the private back porch where you can hear and see the ocean.
OBSERVATION
DECK
Just when you think it can't get any better, it does. The sunset from the deck is beyond words and beyond compare. Take a drink, book or special someone up the spiral staircase and brace yourself for the fantastic view. Some forty feet above the landlubbers, the deck has custom Adirondack benches, wide railings, and breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean, Bloody Marsh, six barrier islands, as well as the old Coast Guard Station for which Coast Cottages is named. (Note: children should not be left unattended on the deck).
