Time Travel
It has been speculated that one could travel through time without moving through space. That’s not true. You cannot put a coordinate system in space, there’s nothing to hold it too. Everything is moving and spinning. If you look at yourself, you are on a planet’s surface that’s moving at some speed, between a little (at the poles due to the Earth’s wobble) and about 1,000 mph at the equator due to it’s rotation. You think you’re sitting still in your chair but you are moving a few hundred miles per hour to the East and a few thousand miles per hour around the Sun and a few hundred thousand miles per hour around the center of the galaxy and who knows how fast the galaxy is moving?
So, if you could make a door that you could travel 1 hour into the future without moving through space and you went through that door you would be hundreds of thousands of miles away from where you were on Earth. You would have stepped through that doorway into outer space. You’d have spaced yourself and you’d be dead.
If you tried to move into the past you’d have the same problem, the Earth isn’t standing still waiting for you, it has moved hundreds of thousands of miles during the last hour. All you would do is space yourself and die.
Time travel is only possible the way it is, movement is only in one direction, toward the future. You can never go backward in time.
Now, lets talk about something that’s more interesting. Most people who think about it are bothered by the "fact" that you can move forwards and backwards through space but only forward through time. They claim that they can move to the left and right, up and down, and forwards and backwards. Now think about that. Your on the planet Earth moving, say 800 mph to the East. If you walk east and then turn around and walk west you claim that you have moved forwards and then backwards. I say you only moved forwards, first at 802 mph then at 798 mph, always toward the East. You never moved backwards, just forwards at a faster or slower pace. Now, you say, you can get into an airplane that travels 2,000 mph so you can beat this 800 mph speed that the Earth’s surface is moving but the Earth is also traveling around the Sun at about 66,000 mph. So, at best you are traveling between 68,000 mph and 64,000 mph around the Sun. Always in the same direction. If you use a spaceship that travels 100,000 mph you have the same problem because the Sun is moving around the center of the Milky Way Galaxy at over 500,000 mph. And, we don’t even know how fast the galaxy is moving.
It seems to me that we are all traveling in only one direction, that we can not turn around and go back to where we were. We can’t go fast enough.
We all travel through both Space and Time in only one direction for each. We cannot go backwards in Space and we cannot go backwards in Time.
We live in a Universe of speed. We do not live in a Universe of "Space and Time" but one of "Space-Time".
But wait, both Space and Time are linked to Gravity. Oh, but that's another paper.
