Nearly
everyone gets headaches from time to time. However, they are recurrent
or chronic for about 20 percent of the population. The causes of
headaches are legion: trauma, irritation of nerves and muscles in
the neck, drug side effects or withdrawal, bright lights, muscle
tension, sinus trouble, certain foods and o whole host of other
things.
It
is important to know that a headache is not an ache in the brain.
The brain and skull do not feel pain. Surgeons can operate on the
brain with the patient fully awake using only a local anesthetic
on the scalp.
The
ache in a headache occurs when the pain sensitive parts of the head
are injured or irritated. The pain sensitive parts are: the duramater
covering the brain, the arteries of the skull, and cranial nerves.
Irritation, compression, stretching, pulling, inflammation of any
of these can produce a headache. These things can be caused by any
of that long list above.
Headache
Treatment
We need to treat the cases of our problems in order to effectively
restore our well being. Tylenol. aspirin, etc. only mask the symptoms.
Of course, headaches from eye problems need glasses; sinus and ear
infection need medical treatment. However, Chiropractic treatment
has been providing relief for headaches for most of the last hundred
years. Chiropractic treatment helps eliminate spinal nerve stress.
In
the upper back and neck, there are small nerves and muscles that,
when they are irritated, can contribute to headaches. Chiropractic
treatment allows our bodies to restore themselves; to heal themselves.
We can achieve a greater level of health and wellness.
Chiropractic
treatment is extremely important for anyone with recurring headaches
particularly.
