Whiplash is when the head and neck are rapidly throw (snapped) forward and backward. It can cause soft tissue, or disc damage, stretching or damage to the spinal cord or nerves, and spinal column misalignment and irritation. Whiplash can happen in sports, auto accidents or a fall. Around twenty two million people in North America have suffered from whiplash damage. The neck is fully packed with blood and lymph vessels, glands, tubes, nerves, spinal column, ligaments, tendons, meninges, muscles and lots more. Your heavy head is balanced on top of all this. Neck problems can be caused by poor posture, work habits, even birth trauma. Neck problems can result in pins-and-needles or coldness in the face, arms, hands, wrists or chest. They can cause headaches, numbness or coldness of the upper body. Other results may be ear ringing, eye pain, blurred vision, insomnia, low back and neck pain hearing loss, dizziness, sensitivity to light and a host of other problems. About 50,000 babies in North America are born each year with congenital muscular torticolus. Studies have shown that if chiropractics are tried first, surgery may not be needed. After an accident, it is most important to take care of any life threatening problems. Then, the spine must be attended to. |
