Rolfing Children |

The child's posture is an indicator of how the child is adapting to the various forces involved in sitting, standing, walking, and playing. Disease, injury, chronic misuse or bad posture can be a cause of disorganization in the connective tissue (fascia)- the tissue that holds us together. This tissue is moldable and can change our form in either a favorable or unfavorable direction. Under the guidance of the Rolfer's hands, this tissue can be directed toward a more favorable pattern. This results in posture and movement patterns that are more efficient and result in less strain and disability. The new patterns that the Rolfer establishes in the connective tissue matrix are made permanent or progressive by the new patterns of movement and posture. |

The Children's Workshop |

We are sponsoring a Rolfing workshop for children in the North County area of San Diego. In this workshop, your child may get from one to 10 Rolfing sessions. A child needs the same amount of Rolfing manipulation as does an adult. We use 2 or 3 practitioners (when available) with the child so as to maximize the work accomplished without taxing the attention span of the child. Each session is about 1/2 hour. Each practitioner is trained in Rolfing adults and has established his practice. The special skills for working with children and for working as a team, including and being supervised by, Certified Advanced Rolf Practitioner, Victor Geberin. We may work on children with a medical problem but we focus on the chronic, non-disease aspects of the child's structure. Though any given practitioner may practice medicine or therapy outside this clinic, we do not in any way, replace standard medical care for medical problems. We like to take before and after photos as a way of documenting the dramatic changes we often see. These photos are not required. The clinic time is periodic.
Get on our email list for information as a workshop approaches. |

Dr. Rolf recognized that structural imbalances early in life were causes of chronic complaints in many adults. Such deviations from the ideal, like a tipped head, sway back, protruding belly, or hooked foot, would show up as neck strain, lower back pain, pelvic pain, and constant knee and foot injuries and pain. An unbalanced body will compensate to combat the downward pull of gravity. The resulting distress is cumulative, the body becoming more and more out of balance as time passes. Fascia shortens and thickens in response to misuse, trauma, and disease. This further pulls the body away from ideal alignment and causes more discomfort. In the child these imbalances may show up as "growing pains", attention problems, emotional distress, and obvious postural problems

As we watch a child and the way he expresses himself in his body, we see shyness, fear, anger, shame, depression; or gracefulness, uprightness, confidence, belongingness, etc. The negative emotions can become locked into the physical body, through the connective tissue and become chronic expressions. These can result in pain, wear and tear, fatigue, and other "non-emotional" states. |

To say that your child is not the "physical" type or "an outdoor child" is really saying a lot about the child's comfort in the body and emotions. |
