Hybrid Tea Roses

Hybrid teas are more popular than ever and the backbone of most rosarian's gardens. People love to see, give, and receive a beautiful bloom on a long stem. In a survey conducted by Bob Martin, 53% of the roses grown by top exhibitors are hybrid teas. Some of the newest hybrid tea varieties introduced since the year 2000 include Veterans' Honor, Marilyn Monroe, Black Magic, Gemini, and now Sunstruck.

The hybrid tea rose will be around for a long time. Look for further refinements in disease resistance, fragrance, color blends, and overall bloom quality. While we do love our Hybrid Teas, it is rare to see a garden with only Hybrid Teas, most rosarians blend other varieties of roses into the garden as well. In future articles we will look at shrubs, floribundas, mini-floras, miniatures, and old garden roses.

The roses below are some of the more popular Hybrid Teas grown in the East County area. If you haven't tried these varieties, give them a try.
