Sun Performance Mirror Relocation Brackets
By James Hasler
These $30 brackets allow you to remount your existing mirrors so that you can remain street legal when driving without your doors. This particular installation was on a YJ, but the brackets themselves are pretty much the same as the TJ brackets other than the TJ brackets mount to the side of the lower windshield hinge instead of the front.
You do lose all visibility of the passenger side mirror when the upper doors are on and the drivers side is slightly obscured. (This means you have to lean towards the door slightly to see the mirror.) However, with the doors off, even the passenger side mirror can be seen.
I also ended up taking the factory mounts off all together. You should plug up the three holes that are left behind, however, so that water does not enter the door.
Installation was a bear for me, however. You think removing four bolts would be easy but it turned into a nightmare when I realized that the nuts are not tack welded in place so the bolts just spin. If you're agile enough to get a wrench up under the dash (and not let the speaker magnet gobble it up, then Kudos to you!! I ended up having to disconnect the two rollbar stubs, the visors as well as the lower windshield brackets. This allowed me to drop the windshield in order to gain access to the top dashboard bolts. I then was able to remove the 6 side dashboard bolts and the upper ones and move the dash backwards a couple of inches. This allowed me to put a wrench on the 4 nuts.
The brackets themselves have a nice black powdercoat to them and come with a black sleeve and a washer...you reuse the existing nut.
Now that it is done, I'm very happy I did it!
