BF Goodrich All-Terrain KO's

By James Hasler

I've run 4 sets of the old BFG Radial All-Terrains on various vehicles as well as one set of the Mud-Terrains, and I've always been impressed with the traction and toughness of the BFG's. So, when the All-Terrain KO's came out, with a rim protector, side bitter lugs and an improved tread with larger voids and more siping, I was really impressed.

So, when the stock tires on my 97 ZJ wore out, I wanted to replace them with a tire that was a lot more aggressive while still being relatively quiet on the highway. The ZJ is my daily driver and mainly sees highway use. However, it does see time in the snow and on forest roads. The BFG All-Terrain KO's fit the task perfectly.

As for tire size, my ZJ is a 97 with the stock suspension (no up-country) and the V-8. 225/75R-15's were the stock size and I originally planned to use 235/75R-15's. However, Discount tire let me try a set of 30x9.5R-15's to see if they would fit. I was sold! The 30x9.5's filled the wheelwells perfectly and measure about 29.25" tall mounted on the ZJ. I've flexed up the suspension a bit and maxed out the turning radius and have yet to hear them rub on anything. Here's a shot of the left rear wheelwell and of the entire ZJ.

The tires look great, have proven themselves very good on the snow and cannot be heard on the highway. This is also a good example to all of you ZJ owners wondering whether or not 30x9.5's will fit on your Jeep and how they will look. I certainly recommend the KO's.
