Removable and Modular Trail Rack

By James Hasler

Design By Andrew Smith (with additional details soon...)

Andrew was looking for a trail rack that was cheap, modular and removable. Here's what he came up with for ~$70. Looks good and is very strong with plenty of room to add fuel cans, etc.

Due to the design, the tail lights were recessed to clear the uprights. The tailgate still has room to open.

The upper basket is removable with 4 bolts. This allows the basket to be mounted elsewhere. Andrew is planning on fabbing brackets so that the basket can be mounted above the tonneau cover or even on top of his Cherokee. 2 of the 4 basket bolts are shown below. The hex nuts could re replaced with wing nuts to make the removing process wrenchless.

The upper support is below. It's composed of a adjustable length rod, locking nut and a c-clamp. Back off the lock nut and unscrew the main, hex shaped rod-nut and the upright disconnects from the rollbar.

Once the upper support is undone, the whole rack lifts off of the posts welded to the bumper.

More details, such as the basket measurements, are still in the works. Stay tuned...
