This DVD showcases storm chase video shot in high quality SVHS format between 1993 and 1995. The program begins with video segments from the Hooker, Oklahoma tornado and Colton, South Dakota mile-wide "wedge" tornado. It features storm chases from the historic Spring of 1995 where tornado
and hail "roars" were almost as common as a west Texas sunset.
The Verifications of the Origin of Rotation in Tornadoes EXperiment (VORTEX)
was underway during this period and the scientists chose an exceptional
tornado period in west Texas history. Brief clips of my tornado video
have been featured in many national and international documentaries. These
are the full-length versions. The June 2, 1995 Dimmitt, Texas tornado is widely accepted as the best
scientifically documented tornado of all-time since it was surrounded
by VORTEX research storm chase crews. This full-length version includes
the entire life cycle of the tornado from touchdown, to mature cone, through
final rope stage. The tornado crossed 0.7 miles (about 1 km) to our west,
stripping asphalt from Texas Highway 86 and destroyed a home on the east
edge of Dimmitt. The 1.3 mile (2 km) wide Allison, Texas tornado from June 8, 1995 is one of the largest ever captured on video and produced a deafening roar. It was also surrounded by VORTEX chase crews. Early in its life cycle, the tornado was measured moving north at 60 mph, but It became stationary during the last last 20 minutes of its life a few miles northwest of Allison. This segment was taken from the southwest side of Allison about 1/3rd of a mile from the outer edge of the vortex. The Farmer's Valley-Vernon, Texas tornado from June 9, 1995 is one of
the closest and most startling multi-vortex tornadoes I have ever encountered.
The parent supercell had already produced 15 - 20 weak, short-lived, "dust-whirl"
tornadoes. But we were unprepared when one of the "dust whirl"
tornadoes formed at close range then suddenly became a large, multi-vortex
tornado and tracked right for us! The program contains two compelling, original music videos which showcase my best 35mm images from this period as well as incredible time lapse video of supercells, tornadoes, microbursts, mammatus clouds, etc. Running Time: 62 minutes
