This DVD showcases storm chase video shot in high quality SVHS and digital-8 formats between 1996 and 2001. The program features tornado video shot near Benkelman, Nebraska and Atwood, Kansas. The Atwood, Kansas tornado caught my storm chase partner and me off-guard as it formed behind us along the supercell's rear flank gust front/flanking line and blew out our back windows as it raced over our chase vehicle!
Also featured is the historic May 3, 1999 Bridgecreek-Moore, Oklahoma tornadic supercell. This storm was highlighted by an F5 tornado which tracked from just northeast of Chickaska to Bridge Creek to Moore to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. This killer tornado produced the strongest wind speed ever recorded on earth...301mph (+/- 20 mph) measured by the Doppler on Wheels (DOW) near Bridgecreek, Oklahoma. I captured many of the tornadoes produced by this historic storm. The segment begins with the Apache-Cyril tornado, follows with the Chickasha tornado, and then the F5 "wedge" tornado near Bridgecreek. It finishes with video of the F5 crossing Interstate-35 in Moore, Oklahoma less than one mile to my north. Unfortunately, my SVHS camcorder malfunctioned during the Interstate-35 crossing, but the video snippets which survived are dramatic. The Gracemont-Spring Creek, Oklahoma tornadoes from October 9, 2001 are featured as well. I was caught off-guard and not prepared to chase storms on this outbreak day. However, a tornadic supercell was approaching from the southwest and I thought I could catch it before sunset. My wife Tracy wanted to chase too so we brought our two girls (Olivia and Julia) along for the ride. They saw their first tornadoes on this day, two of which were close encounters out our back windshield! Four compelling, original music video segments showcase my best 35mm images as well as incredible time lapse storm video. Running Time: 69 minutes
