NEWS

05/23/05 - Well, another great weekend and that much closer to sailing. I have some secret information from Jeff, who contacted me back in April about the website. He was on the May, 14 sailing of Horizon and I have placed his review on the Review Page. Check it out, as it has the best information on what we can expect in less than 2 weeks! We have 44 people signed up for the C/C - Celebrity Party. Thanks, Helen for your support (and everyone else). I just saw a posting for a Zenith sailing for this coming weekend that needed, like, 6 more people for a party. Hope they make it. Get those beads ready for the "After Muster Meeting" at the Marina Bar. I started the Bermuda Pile, but it's not gotten very big. Guess we'll travel kinda light. Anyway, SEA you all soon.
05/17/05 - Well, I've been searching and I have found yet another Map of Bermuda in Adobe PDF. IT is similar to the first map, but this has really good detail of St. George and Hamilton. It is from the Bermuda Tourism site. Got some E-mail from others that will be crusing the Horizon after us. So, I guess we better keep it in shape. As you saw on Our Roll Call, I posted some info on the Graduation the weekend of May 14. Sarah and Kathleen made it, to say the least - Cum Laude and all that stuff. Click HERE to see their photo and info. Well, I've got to start that darn Bermuda Pile, sometime...
05/12/05 - Hi all. Thought I'd add some thoughts and stuff. Looks like "rphnc" & "DrStock" from C/C are joining us. Welcome Aboard. It appears that Helen made it thru Mother's Day - Thank You again. Hope that you all have your beads ready. Dor & Bob dropped ours off this morning as they were passing thru Alexandria. Cyndi, hope all is worked out for you all. I added some Essentials to Pack and things to do on the "What to Pack" page. I'm waiting for "Swizzle" to return to the C/C boards, so we can get together and meet him in Bermuda. It looks like the C/C-Celebrity Party will be the first day at sea. So you don't miss it, ask at the Purser's Desk (Guest Relations) to see when it will be, just in case you don't get an invite in your stateroom in time. Now, we all will meet at the Marina Bar just in front of the pool. It looks great right after the lifeboat drill. That's it for now. I gotta go pick up Deb from her return trip from San Juan - Work related. It's tough, but somebody's got to do it. See you all soon.      ps - You gotta do the "Doc Dance". Turn up your speakers and click on this link!
05/03/05 - I just read a really nice Review on Bermuda from darkangel 55, (Pamela), on C/C. She did her homework and had a great time. Apparently, no mopeds were harmed in the making of her trip!
05/02/05 - Well, another week has gone by and we're another week closer to the CRUZ. Glad to see some activity on the C/C boards. I added some info as to who we're going to be sharing a berth with - OK, other ships. I just got this from one of the sites. I've posted it on the "Ship Info" page at the bottom. Had another positive comment or two on the website. I guess folks are using it, since we've had over 1600 hits over the last few months. Had a posting about "Destination Dockyard" - Didn't know I already had it on the "Sightseeing Page". I've seen and written so much, I need a true index on here. I've added a photo of Helen, Tim and two of their sons - Jett and Jamie, on the "Cruiser Bio" page. On the same page, I added a photo of Helen with her sisters, too. Thanks, Helen.
04/26/05 - I just found the neatest Cruise Tipping Calculator. Looks like it has some really cool features. It was "Invented" by fellow C/C'er TPKeller. Thanks for th tool Theron.
04/25/05 - OK, I've been bad and not kept up with more daily news postings. I've heard from a couple of folks out there that you all have not met. Most recently, Cliff and company, who will be on the Horizon's 5/14 sailing liked the site and I'm sure he'll drop us some information on his cruise upon his return. Also, Don and his wife will be on our cruise and was interested in getting together, too. I'll try to contact Don, again. I'm sure that many of you have seen postings on the C/C Bermuda forum from "Swizzle_2.0". He has been working in Bermuda for some time now and has been a wealth of information to many posters. So, I was able coerce an e-mail from him a few days ago (with the stipulation that I'd buy) and we're going to try to get together while in Bermuda. I expect anyone that wishes to join in is more than welcome. It should be a lot of fun.
Found an interesting site for things to see in Bermuda. It's a museum database that covers the U.S. and some other countries. It has a great List of Historical Sites in Bermuda. I also came upon a travel writer's site, Lynn Seldon, that has some interesting reading about Bermuda. Thought you may like this.
Seems like some cruise ships have gotten into a little trouble during their voyages over the past couple of weeks. With the NCL Dawn getting caught in a bad storm and then getting trashed by a rogue wave. Then last week the RCCL - Grandeur of the Seas had an incident with the pier in Costa Maya, MX, during docking operations in high winds. Here are some photos of that incident. Thanks to some fellow C/C'ers for the photos - the captions are mine, though.

While this does not affect our June 4, 2005 cruise to Bermuda directly, don't forget about the need for passports after December 31, 2005. Here is the implementation schedule:
December 31, 2005 - all travel (air/sea) to or from the Caribbean, Bermuda, Central and South America.
December 31, 2006 - all air and sea travel to or from Mexico and Canada.
December 31, 2007 - all air, sea and land border crossings.

Feel free to quote this in postings, etc. Based on some of the questions and comments that I've seen, people just don't get it, yet.
Lastly, remember to check out the different C/C forums - which is how we all met - and also the BERMUDA4U and BERMUDA SHORTS forums. ...and drop me a note with some questions, comments, etc. ENJOY!
04/12/05 - I've been keeping tabs on the BERMUDA4U site, more specifically their forum. Looks like some of us have visited and done some postings. Good job! 04/10/05 - Another week closer to CRUZin'. We made it to Pittsburgh and back, with no detours or construction on the PA.   Turnpike. The C/C Bermuda Forum is coming alive with the Bermuda Cruise Season geting closer. I received a really nice e-mail from First Time Cruiser, Sharleene (C/C - RozS). She is traveling with "My mother, Pat and my daughter Sydney". Pat grew up in Bermuda in the '40's, so they're going back to see Pat's history. Welcome Sharleene, Pat and Sydney to our group.
For those that may be renting a tux for the cruise, time is getting short. I've always used Cruiseline Formal and have nothing but Kudos for them.
Some new or expanded links for Bermuda are at hand. I ran across the Insiders book series, specific to Bermuda. I suppose if you want it all, then buy the book, but it really looked like it was all there online, quite interesting. The Bermuda Tourism site has a lot of info, too. There is one section that has all of their brochures online, with things to see & do and places to go. It was a bit more challenging to find, so here is the Bermuda Tourism Brochures link. I did have need to test out the Bermuda4U forum this week and the moderator "Motty" answered my question quite promptly, as he did for others. Actually there have been a lot of "views" on that site. Almost forgot, the Bermuda Ferry site is excellent. It's the Official Ministry of Tourism & Transport site. It'll tell how, when and where to catch the Bermuda Ferry.
If you're new to this site, WELCOME Aboard! There is a lot of info here and more being added all of the time. You may want to head to the"NEWS" Page for all of the archived info then over to the "Sightseeing & Stuff" page for a number of Bermuda Links and miscelleanous items. Please drop me an e-mail from the link at the bottom of this page. ENJOY!
04/04/05 - Good Monday Morning. I've added a page to the site entitled "Bermuda Beaches". I put this together this week after chatting with Glen of "Bermuda Shorts" I sent him a copy, too. Sorry about the numbers and names not being in better order. This one is "Down and Dirty".
**I just added the link to the Bermuda4u site on the Sightseeing page . Bermuda4U is a commercial site with LOTS of great information. David Mottershead, the owner, lives in Manchester, UK and is a former resident of the island. David had seen our site and thought that he could be of help in our "Things-to-Do planning. Check out his site and drop him an e-mail with comments and questions, his e-mail is david@bermuda4u.com. He has just added a forum to the site and I may be a charter member. Just click the "Bermuda4U Forum" link, here on the left, and go for it. It's a quick registration and simple!**
It's been a busy week at work and a busy weekend at home. I'll try and post more oftern for you all. One item in the new is the addition of Cellular Phone Service on Celebrity's Summit (my posting was the 2nd one in - take a look). C/C kitty9 posted a note about this and bless her for the heads up. I hope she didn't take the comments personally! She and I both agree that she was only the messenger. The topic of "Can a Cruise Ship Sink" was another good one, with some interesting photos (the "Rogue Wave" entered into it and I posted my knowledge of the phenomena). And then, to top it off, so to speak - "Can I Wear a Thong". It was pretty good - or bad. Oh yeah, Host Andy is live on the Summit - I'll ask him about the Cell Phones. Thanks Rman - Yes, Rich, it's 2 months out. How is everyone handling Daylight Savings Time? Have a great and safe week!
03/21/05 - The crusie is beginning to be the real thing. Most of us have made the final payment to our TA's and have been discussing the excursions. Remember the Celebrity Excursion Brochure is on this website and can be downloaded for your leisurely reading pleasure. Has anyone actually booked any excursions, yet? I know that Dor and Bob are going to do the Bermuda railway and bike tour and Rich and Jeff may do some fishing. I'd love to go Marlin fishing, but it is $$$$! I'm going to find the "This Old House" building that they did in St. George, last year. I've checked out the "TOH"site and I'm hoping I can find it when we get there. As for finding things, I just added a really nice Map of Bermuda in Adobe Acrobat (PDF) format. For those interested in "Imported" cigars, I did some checking for Art, who is taking the Horizon on April 30 to Bermuda. I looked on the Bermuda Yellow Pages site under "Tobacco" and it came right up. thanks for the idea, Art and have a great cruise. We hope to hear a review, when you return. I saw that Helen and hre DH are doing the Pilates, I know that others are getting in shape, also. I assembled the new Bowflex and we're working on it, too. Everyone take care and drop me a note with any questions and suggestions. ONLY NEED 2 MORE FOR THE PARTY!!! Enjoy the week.
03/10/05 - Added the link to Celebrity's Frequently Asked Questions page. It is on the left side of the opening page under "LINKS". This will take you to the Celebrity site and it is quite informative.   I have also added Celebrity's Bermuda Excursion Brochure to the site (on the left, too). It is an Adobe "PDF" file and when clicked the brochure will open in it's own window (provided you have the Adobe PDF viewer on your PC). You may then print it or save it to your PC for future reference (and save a tree or 2). C/C is still having problems with their site tonite, it did work earlier today. No e-mail from you all - come on, YES even those lurking! Remember to log on to the Celebrity site and enter your personal information. This will speed up the boarding process, get you to your cabin faster and start the PARTY earlier!
03/09/05 - Just added an Icon to our website. If you choose to add this website to your favorites, a special icon will appear in your "Favorites" list, to the left of the site name. This will not affect your PC in any way, lots of site do it in order to personalize the site and make it easier to find in your "Favorites" list. In Internet Explorer, on the menu bar click "Tools", then "Add to Favorites". It may take a minute or so to register on your PC, but it'll show up. Looks like the C/C site is down (3/9/05-11:15pm EST). See if I can find out what's up.
03/08/05 - I just found out from C/C Host Andy that Horizon's new name will be the ISLAND STAR, when she moves to  Island Crusie Lines in late 2005. She's going to get a "makeover", too.
03/07/05 - Hi all, Hope your weekend was great. Spring is in the air here in Alexandria. About 70 degrees today. Tomorrow is supposed to drop into the 30's with rain changing to snow. Still updating the site - more on the Sightseeing & Stuff page. Some Tour operators and Points of interest. Also added much more info on the ship. How about dropping me an e-mail and sending me some insight as to what you'll be wanting to see and do in Bermuda. C'mon, don't keep it ALL to yourselves. Make sure that you've updated your personal info on the Celebrity site and looked at their excursion offerings - Yes, Dorothy, I know - "Practice What I Preach" - I promise I will, really.
03/03/05 - I've added some more info on the Sightseeing and Stuff page. Things to see and do and various rental venues for mopeds, boats and some taxi info. Founds a great site today, The Bermuda Yellow Pages. Some great videos and photos on the opening page just righ of center. Use your speakers for the video - you'll be ready to leave today. Check it out and poke around. I kept an interesting post on why you get to the port of embarkation a day early. This happened to us in August 2004. True story. To read it "Click Here". It also is on the "Get There Early" page. Drop me a note on anything you'd like to see or anything else, for that matter.
03/01/05 - Hi Ya from the Not Really a Blizzard in Alexandria location. Today's Deb's Birthday - WOO-HOO! Made it through another one. Dorothy checked the Celebrity site and found that we have 21 folks signed up for the "Celebrity Crusie Connections" party. Thanks to those that did and please sign up, if you haven't. We only need 4 more. I added an interesting post on why you get to the port of embarkation a day early. This happened to us in August 2004. True story. To read it "Click Here". It also is on the "Get There Early" page. Drop me a note on anything you'd like to see or anything else, for that matter.
02/27/05 - A good Sunday eveneing from Alexandria - Soon to tbe the snow capital of the Mid-Atlantic. Rich sent me an e-mail about the site - A BIG THANKS, It keeps me going. Charter boat fishing was an item that I'll be checking on as well as transportation around the island. On the Sightseeing Page, I added information on the bus and Ferry system and I added a link to that particular section on the left side under "On This Page". I will continue to do this since the page will be getting kinda long. Added Dorothy and Bob to the Bio page, too. Another great couple for everyone to meet. Talk to you all soon.
02/25/05 - Well, here's the start. You can (hopefully) see the general idea behind this site. I once knew a person that kept his site to one page - but it was one hellofva long page. Poke around the site and let me know what you want to see. I'll be adding stuff all along and a lot of it the next few days, now that I have it going.
If you had a problem in the past couple of days with the e-mail icon at the bottom of the page not working, MY FAULT. It should be OK, now. (THANKS Rich M, aka-RMAN on the C/C Boards)
I've added Cruise Parking Information and some sightseeing info on the Norfolk Page.
See you all soon.
