Sorry to say, that the only one in this picture I remember is Milton "Mad Mac" Magart, who
is standing to the left of me. We both reported to USS Charr, while she was in Mare Island.
I am standing, back row, third from left.

In talking with other Submariners, I have never seen another plaque
like this one.

When I reported to New London in May of 1955, I saw my first Submarine cranking turn's down the Thames River heading out to sea.
How silent she was from my vantage point, this sleek, black steel tube.
God .... how beautiful, and a shiver went up my spine as I watched.

Fortyseven years later when we visit San Diego and see the Boats at Ballist Point, these sleek black steel tubes,
I still think .... God how beautiful, and a shiver still goes up my spine ...............

Submarine School New London Connecticut 1978

The Towers are no longer at New London or Pearl Harbor. For those of us, that had
escape training in them, we will never forget .... It was a rush, thats for sure.

Thanks to the tower at New London, Uncle Sam paid for all new fillings in my teeth.
During the compression stage at the 50 foot level, I started to feel these weird
movements in my mouth. I said something to our instructor, and as I was talking I
suddenly had a mouthfull of fillings. Left them in a pile on the bench, as we made ready for our accent.
The free accents were the best. You would get half your body out of the water, at the end.
