·  MCI WorldCom Communications

Integration and ERP planning for internal applications and intranet commerce. Y2K System Compliance. Integration services and design of real-time messaging services for financial systems and legacy telecommunications systems using broker messaging and real-time EDI interfaces, discussed below. IBM implementation of MCI's CCAP project Y2K requirements were also reviewed. UNIX training for key staff personnel. .

UNIX training for key staff personnel.

·  WSA International

Traditional Corporate gateway project integrating Legacy applications with electronic commerce services. Customer web interfacing, utilizing PROGRESS’ Aptivity and WebSpeed products as well as Java scripts.   Interfacing included integration of a custom legacy UNIX (SCO) based manufacturing system to the Internet for customer information access. Additional B2B graphics EDI and EAI project work.

·  Kemp Mill Music

Y2K conversions and compliance.

·  Foxwoods Casino

Conversions and compliance for casino EDI / ERP management of the legacy Ferry / Reservation system interfacing. Preliminary design discussions for Gateway reservation system access

1998

·  MCI Wireless

Project consisted of two phases. The first consisted of management consulting in which a design and implementation plan was created to revamp and replace legacy Unisys systems with DEC 8400 systems. Custom work included the design and implementation of fail over / failsafe backup system design, raid design, backup and restoration interfaces as well as other aspects of the system. Uptime requirements of better than 99.9999% for the 1500+ simultaneous users were required and special interfacing to deal with redundant system control and dual processing were necessary. Telephony and redundant networking interfaces were also addressed.

·  Foxwoods Casino

Project included design completion and implementation of a reservation system to provide limousine and ferry services, ticketing, tracking, reservation interfacing, billing and financial reporting. Integration with other casino systems was also required for this implementation. Additionally, some work for data-mining and Oracle-web interfacing was also involved.

1997

·  WSA International

This project included the design and integration for a full production/manufacturing system. With assistance from WSA, S&S designed and implemented a fully integrated manufacturing system custom designed for the manufacturing of annunciator panels. A UNIX implementation was used, integrating legacy databases with CAD design and full project tracking. Custom interfacing for customer interfaces including automatic fax retrieval, custom EPROM burning, and email. All aspects of the manufacturing cycle were included in this project.

·  MCI Wireless

Project included two phases. The first consisted of a management consulting phase in which a design and implementation plan was created and in which hardware vendors were interviewed and their proposed solutions were evaluated on technical merit. The second was the complete overhaul and upgrade to MCI Wireless’ legacy accounting system. Requirements included upgrading the existing terminal based system to a fully networked interface solution. Uptime and redundant systems designs which would limit down time to less than 8 minutes per year were required. Fail over / fail safe design, operational and hardware design were included as part of this project. Performance improvement of over 1000% was also required.

1987 - 1997

·  Cedar Cliff Systems

Dealing with fast growth is difficult at best. Dealing with explosive growth is almost impossible. Managing an Inc 500, "Fastest Growing Company" is in itself a major project. As founder, owner, CEO, and active President of Cedar Cliff Systems, Inc. (CCSC), I was involved in almost all aspects of this entrepreneurial business. CCSC was a self-funding organization. As such, the financial needs of the company with its short past history required more attention and care than most larger organizations require. Personal arrangements with banks and other lending institutions were among many of the weekly activities. Financial management and planning were critical to our success.

As a Government contractor, the legal implications of dealing with the U.S. Government were also among my priorities. Inevitably, if you win a large U.S. contract it will be protested and challenged. Interfacing with our legal advisors and assuring that the company, and its staff, stayed within the requirements of the Government’s standards and contracting requirements was also a major activity.

One of the cornerstones that founded CCSC was its revenue generating training classes. From CCSC’s onset, I provided training in a number of areas. As a UNIX expert, I (and later we) provided training to commercial and governmental organizations. As a certified PROGRESS trainer I provided training across a number of relational DBMS systems. I have personally trained over 2000 students. We also provided Microsoft, networking, and other specialized computer software training.

Of course, as a small organization there are always the requirements of staffing and staff management which occupied much of my remaining time. These activities included almost all aspects of personnel management.

During my ten years with CCSC, I was directly involved with many contracts. Below are a highlighted few:

Project descriptions for activities prior to 1986 will be furnished by request

Describe your management style:

I expect each employee to own the tasks they are handed and to take on the personal responsibility to accomplish those goals. Those who cannot, are not [employees]. Employees are expected to contribute ideas towards common goals. To that end it is essential that employees be provided with the training and tools needed to accomplish these goals. It is not my job to micro-manage, but to make each employee aware of the company’s common goals, and how his/her work contributes to the achievement of those goals. My job is to see the bigger picture and to ensure that employees are working together towards these goals, orchestrating each of the human instruments along that path.

In what type of corporate culture are you most successful:

One in which the environment is charged with excitement about where we are and what we are doing. Where each employee is encouraged to contribute to the success of the workplace, is eager to do so, and is rewarded for making contributions. One where each employee continually expands his or her capabilities.

What would motivate you to consider a new career opportunity:

An interesting problem, an opportunity to work with other top people in my field, new technology, and of course, money.

What words would colleagues use to describe your personality:

Smart, competitively aggressive, an industry "elder," loyal, responsible, generous, a leader. Someone who likes to "shine."

Please describe your leadership style:

Much like my management style, the best leader fosters an environment where it is possible for all positive ideas to be heard. Companies produce the most when "the best" and "all the rest" know where you are, where you are going, and why. To be a successful leader your staff, and their staff, must perceive that you have the skills and talents necessary to lead the entire group to success.
