Rubberbia Rabbitlandia (known mainly as Rabbitlandia) is a peaceful land of clover and carrots, with plentiful rainfall and moderate weather.

The boundaries between our country and the worlds of Human, Faerie and Magick are quite blurred, so there are few formal crossing points. Rabbitlandia doesn't restrict immigration and welcomes all visitors. Entries to Rabbitlandia can be found in many a back garden.
There exists no trade between other countries or lands, though Rabbits are frequent travelers.

History

Rabbitlandia was founded (Read the Legend)in the year 0 (RY) by a doe rabbit named Elder, later known as Queen Elder (Fairy Friend), who ruled until 28 (RY). She was succeeded by Queen Holly (the Fair), who ruled only two years; being tragically murdered by grues when her nightlight was accidentally extinguished. In revenge, her son, King Rowan (the Foolhardy), led an ongoing war during his thirty year reign to eradicate the grues. He himself became a victim during one hunt and his body was never found.

His daughter, Queen Hazel I, ascended the throne in the year 60 (RY). It was she who discovered the miraculous properties of eraser carving scraps: when pounded into a resiliant flooring, it acts as an effective grue repellant. Immediately, eraser carving became the hobby of every citizen, and within a year, grues had been driven from Rabbitlandia. No Rabbit has died from the predation of grues since 61(RY). Queen Hazel I was rightly praised as the Saviour of her People. She died peacefully in her sleep at the end of a long and happy life in the year 120(RY).

Her daughter, Hazel II, is the present monarch, and has ruled for 22 years in peace and plenty.

The Family Tree of the Royal Family of Rabbitlandia

Inhabitants

Rabbits are the primary citizens of Rabbitlandia. Ironically, HRH Drakedog the Golden (Retriever), CGC, SGRR383, is usually the first contact of most visitors to our country. Nicknamed "Drake" by Her Majesty, he holds the offices of Customs Inspector, Postmaster General and Principal Secretary to Rabbitmage.
Rabbitmage (a.k.a. RubberRabbit or Rabbit) is a shadowy figure; frequenting the lands of Faerie and Humans. Her mother was the Lady Rowena, sister of King Rowan, and her father was H.R.H. Reginale Willowand (Land of Magick), a direct descendant of the Black Forest Rabbit. As a cousin to Queen Hazel II, Rabbitmage occupies the position of her Chief Advisor. Drakedog and Rabbitmage live together in the Customs House of Rabbitlandia, also known as the Magic Oak Tree.

The Magic Oak

All visitors to Rabbitlandia stay overnight here on their initial visit. A new employee and resident of the Magic Oak is Brenda Nosewiggle, who was recently hired to help Drakedog keep track of visitors and answer correspondence for both Drakedog and Rabbitmage.

Dwellings, Dress, Language and Customs

The citizens of Rabbitlandia live in burrows, trees, cottages, boxes, or wherever seems comfortable at the time.

Dress is optional, though most inhabitants prefer loose cotton shifts in summer and toasty warm woolies in the winter.

Language is not a concern. The work of H.R.H. Rabbitmage means that every language is magically translated within the borders for both citizens and tourists.

We're a friendly people who love tea, crumpets, carrots, parsley and clover. We keep cows and goats as friends and milk-suppliers; bees as pollinators, guardbugs and honeymakers. Spiders spin for us and birds act both as musicians and messengers.

There are minor pests in Rabbitlandia: Do avoid developing bad moods as they will invariably attract a snit which can carry one away until one is dumped, lonely and frightened in some distant area.

The other pest is a garden grue He is not a genuine grue species, but certainly a creature to be discouraged! A popular children's rhyme recited in the garden is: "Rabbit! Drakedog! We're all agog! What is a Garden Grue?! It eats your Crops! Your Carrot Tops; your Radishes and Rue!" There are no repellants yet which work reliably; but a light in the garden does discourage them, so luminerias are a popular garden shop item.

Places of Interest

In the last five years, Drakedog and Brenda Nosewiggle have made it part of their duties to map Rabbitlandia to encourage tourism and traveling letterboxers. The latest map was completed only recently and is as reliable as anything can be in a land steeped in magic.

Rabbitlandia

Using this map, many sites may be visited. Begin at Cloverdale, Her Majesty's summer residence.
The castle is situated at the top of a steep cliff over the sea, to catch cool breezes and serpentsong in the hot summers. You must rise early and climb down the cliffside to the outlook to watch Osmarana, daughter of the sea king Azolla, play her harp to the harmony of the sea serpents. Late risers can simply enjoy the views.

Other Information

On your way to Rabbitlandia, be sure to pack these supplies:

It is the law that every citizen of Rabbitlandia have carving materials and tools to add to our expanding roads. (Roadways are made from the shavings of carvings pounded flat.) We can guarantee your safety within the realm, but the borderlands may still feel the predation of grues (no image available). Better safe than dead!
The only defense against grues is a strong light. Do not let this light go out, as grues are very fast and extremely vicious: their hunger is only exceeded by their fear of light. They are completely silent: there will be no warning of an attack and no remains worth burying.
A strong insult in Rabbitlandia is any comparison to a grue (i.e., you have the table manners of a grue; or, this room looks like a grue den!). While often used by mothers to scold their children, any variance (i.e., I'd rather date a grue!) is terribly insulting to adults and is to be avoided at all times.

To obtain visa and passport information please address your questions to Rabbitmage or Drakedog.
