OUR LEMLEY FAMILY lemley Notes from J. H. Lemly, deceased. The evidence is clear that Jerg Lembgen arrived in Philadelphia in 1748. Jerg arrived aboard the ship Hampshire from Rotterdam. The ship captain's log called him Yerick Lamley (Yerick was a common English version of the German Jerg). His age was given as 30 years and the Pennsylvania records list him as Jerg Lembgen. On December 31, 1761, Jerg Lembgen and Jacob Eller bought 320 acres of land "on Granville's line" at the Yadkin River in Rowan County, NC. Jerg married Catherina, probably not in North Carolina, and probably about 1755. They had seven children: Joseph, Jacob, Philip, Henry, John, and George (the sons in that order) and one daughter Elizabeth. She was listed in his will which he wrote on December 28, 1769. He evidently died soon thereafter for his will was "proved" in February, 1770. Catharina married a neighbor, Conrad Frock who evidently had no children. His will written in 1785, bequeaths to Joseph, Jacob, Philip and Elizabeth Lamly. (George must have died young). Joseph married Margaret maiden name unknown, and listed three children in his will: George who married on August 29, 1805, Catherine Linbarier, (Rowan Bonds). Two daughters were Catherina and Susannah. Nothing was found of the adult life of Jacob. Philip married Mary Elizabeth Kecher in Rowan. They had three children: Catharine, Elizabeth and Moses Lemly.
